Attitude Matters

It’s so cliche to say have a positive attitude! However, it’s a cliche because it’s true! In this article, we will discuss why Attitude matters and how to protect yours.  If you bring a positive attitude to the things you do, you will always have more success! Let’s learn some tips on how to stay positive!

Stay Positive!

Learning to stay positive is the one skill that has completely changed JB’s life. In high school, he was introduced to Zig Ziglar’s “See You at the top”. ( Include a link to the book). This book had a lot of impact on JB’s attitude!

Why Be Positive?

You create your own reality. Thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and beliefs are what shape your perception of the events in your life. Let’s call your habitual thoughts, feelings, attitudes and belief your “life pattern”.

As very young children we were imprinted with our family’s life pattern, and then through out childhood to young adult, we continue to create a unique life pattern. Your life pattern creates a type of filter that controls your view of yourself and your view of the world.

So if you think that you are going to get bad service, that filter means that you’re predisposed to only notice bad service. Your expectation of poor service is going to influence your interaction with the server, and then your internal bias (or filter) will influence the behavior and attitude of the server… because emotions are easily transmitted from one person to the other – they’re like a virus!

The Good News… You’re In Charge!

So if you think your job is terrible, your job will be terrible. If you think that life sucks, then your life will get worse and worse. Your life pattern has a huge impact on what you notice and filter out of your life. This is what we’re talking about when we say that “What we focus on expands”.

In the beginning, it can be overwhelming to realize that our pattern has such a big impact on how our life is going. However, take a step back from the discouragement behind the idea of “this is all my fault”. On second glance, this is a very empowering realization. You are IN CHARGE! You really do create your own reality!

Now you need to figure out how to shift your life pattern to create the reality that you really want!

Do you want to be the Complainer?

It’s also important to remember what it’s like to be around someone who is negative all of the time. It’s very challenging to keep your own energy positive if you are constantly exposed to someone who is critical, complaining, and/or constantly negative. If people seem to be avoiding you, and you’re feeling really alone, you might need to work on your positivity!

Is it working?

A lot of people try changing their life pattern, and adopting a positive attitude, but become easily discouraged and decide that “a positive attitude doesn’t work”. We have to understand that our expectations have to be realistic… a positive attitude doesn’t automatically create a miracle.

However, a positive attitude does make everything that happens to you, even life’s tragedies, easier to bear. A tool that can help with this is looking for the blessings hidden in the hardship.

Get the Momentum Going

When we remember that we focus on expands, practicing a positive attitude becomes vitally important. We want to manifest good things in our life, so it’s important to practice a belief that “good things are coming”. A powerful affirmation is “Something good is going to happen to me today!”

When we start the day with thoughts like this, we get the momentum of our life energy headed in the right direction first thing in the morning. Each day is a new day! Everything could change today!

A Chinese Proverb illustrates this point beautifully:
“Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words.
Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions.
Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits.
Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character.
Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny.”

Practical Tips for Starting the Day Positive

A belief is a thought that we continue to think. Our thoughts create our actions, habits, character, and destiny. So how do we start to change our thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs?

First, we create a positive morning routine. That’s why JB created the Morningcoach CoachCast, and why he has been doing this over 12 years… for more than 3230 episodes. Listening to something positive and motivating get us started on a positive note. We need to do this every single day. We get our mind right, review our Sacred 6, organize our schedule, and then get some exercise while listening to the MorningCoach CoachCast.

At one point when JB was just starting out, his truck broke down. He was broke, and stuck on the side of the road a long way from home. His case of motivational tapes was on the seat of his truck, and when he saw it, he thought “This stuff doesn’t work!” He sat on a bench and cried; he didn’t know what to do.

He had his journal with him, and he wrote “I am f**ked.” Then he turned the page. Automatically, he wrote “What would a winner do?” The hours and hours of mental programming and belief kicked in. And he was able to figure it out, and everything just worked out.

We’re all in this together

We all have bad, horrible, terrible days. That’s why we need a habit of positivity. It’s so that we have a strong foundation when we have challenges. We have to take care of our health, so that we can be strong and powerful. Eat right, sleep, move, and hydrate.

It’s important to work on our self talk. How do we coach ourself? Our mental conversation needs to be positive and encouraging! A great reply to “How are you?” is “I feel great and I’m getting better!” Or we can say “I’m awesome!” and really mean it!

Get around positive people with the same goals and beliefs. Mastermind groups provide the support of a like minded community. They can encourage us when we have those hard times. Garbage In, Garbage Out

Finding a positive tribe is so important. We may need to change who we hang out with. We need to remember the old programming adage “garbage in, garbage out.” Our mental processor only works well when our “program” is fed good information and there are no “bugs”.

We want to remember to protect our inner kingdom. We want the good information coming in, not the negative. This is also done by limiting what we watch or listen to from news or entertainment sources. It’s pretty hard to stay positive if you only listen to the news 24-7. The news industry is all about “fear sells”. They get more viewers, and make more money, if they are creating fear, anxiety, and worry in the audience.

Show Appreciation

There are a lot of great people in the world. Have gratitude and love other people. We focus on connecting with solid, positive, amazing people into our life. When we show appreciation for others, then we will automatically bring out the best in others.

When we show appreciation for others, we are more patient and more kind.  We strengthen and improve those relationships. It’s so important to take some time to appreciate our family members and be grateful that they are in our life.

When we have an “attitude of gratitude” we literally change our reality.

You Create Your Own Reality

Remember that you create your own reality with the way that you think, the way that you visualize, and the way that you take on every single day. It’s critical that you know this, and that you create positive new habits. Make the MorningCoach community your new tribe, and they can help you develop positive new habits.
