Email and Desktop Cleanup

Email And Desktop Cleanup

“It is not about the Clutter being there, it is about the clutter killing your vacuum ” – JB Glossinger

It’s very critical to realize that when you are building your life and really going after things, clutter is something that really destroys momentum. If we have a lot of things that are out there, it creates anxiety and stress.

Clean Environment

Our topic today is a clean environment. It’s critical that we get our environments cleaned up! The Desktop itself, physically, and on the computer. Also your email inboxes. It can be your apps too, like your apps on a tablet, phone, or ereaders. We want to start cleaning that stuff up, because it’s going to clear the clutter for you.

Why Is It So Important

It frees you up to have less anxiety. It also gives you a great feeling and sense of good energy. When you come home and the house is clean the energy level is different than if you come home and the house is dirty. So, we want to get in the habit of keeping things clean.

Keep that environment moving, because when you do that, it allows the good energy to come in. This is the metaphysical idea of clearing the clutter. It’s the idea of the Vacuum Law of Prosperity: When we clean things out, new things can come in.

The more simple you can keep your environment, the better off you are. The idea is to create this environment of work that is actually organized and structured.

Email

Let’s talk a little bit about email. A flag system can really increase your productivity. In the flag system, different colors are used for different important areas.

You may use folders of labels in Gmail. The idea is to really get those things organized. Here’s the key. You rarely need to delete emails, just get them off the unread, and put them in the flags. Once a month spend a few hours cleaning up the flags. Unflagging things that you’re not going to do anything with, cleaning up the unreads, and deleting the spam.

Today or tomorrow, spend a little bit of time cleaning up your email, and clearing the clutter! Get rid of unread emails, organize the ones you need, archive the ones you don’t need. Clean it up!

Computer Desktop

Next, go to your desktop on your computer. Try to clean that up everyday, so that you can use it as a work environment. You might keep a couple things there that you working on consistently. But, remember to move them into the file system. Keep your desktop as clean as possible.

Have A System In Place

Now that the computer desktop is clean, congratulate yourself! You will be more productive and have more energy!

Our next step is to have a system in place. It’s important to try to only touch an email one time – resolve it, delegate it, or file it. We want to continually use a system. We don’t want to go backwards and have backlog again. Start using the proper file systems to increase your efficency.

Physical Desktop

Now, it’s time to do the physical stuff. It’s time to organize your desk. Get in the habit of having a clean desktop at the end of the day. If you have papers all over the place, get into the habit of scanning them. When you start scanning things you won’t loose them.

Productive Habits create Efficiency and Productivity

These are the little habits that you can use to become more productive:

  • Email flag system
  • Once a month email cleanup
  • Daily computer desktop cleanup
  • Daily physical desktop cleanup (scan and file)

These habits will all help you stay more productive and organized. You want to be able to sit down and feel good in your working environment.

It’s challenging at first, but when we clear the clutter we will activate the Vacuum Law of Prosperity and create room for new ideas and new abundance to come into our minds and our lives.
