How to Prevent Split Ends

How to Prevent Split Ends

Split ends are a common problem for many people. They don’t just happen out of nowhere, they can also be caused by the products you use on your Hair or how often you style it. We want to offer some tips and tricks that will help keep your hair looking healthy and Prevent Split Ends from happening in the first place!

We will go over how to prevent split ends.

First, let’s start with the basics: don’t wash your hair every day! It is much better for it in general not only because of this issue but also so that it doesn’t get too dry or frizzy. Try washing once a week, or every other week at the most.

Next is how you dry your hair! The best way to prevent split ends in your hair is to never wrap it up with a towel and squeeze all of that water out of it after washing. If you do this then excess water will have been forced out which can weaken the strand. Instead, just gently towel dry it until barely any water comes off and then comb through your hair with a wide-tooth comb when finished to detangle as you go.

Few Tips to prevent split ends –

1. Avoid using a blow dryer to style your hair

Avoid using a blow dryer to style your hair. Blow drying will damage the cuticle of your strands and cause it to be more prone to split ends as well as frizz, which is not good for anyone!

If you absolutely must use one then try using the cool setting rather than hot so that it doesn’t do as much damage. This will also help to keep your hair from drying out and being brittle.

In addition, you should always use a heat protectant before blowdrying so that it doesn’t get too damaged as well.

If you don’t have time for this or just want an easier way then try using a flat iron instead of the blow dryer which will also reduce the risk of damaging your hair.

2. Use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type

Right shampoo is key to having healthy hair.

If you have oily/wavy hair, use a clarifying shampoo or one with Tea tree oil

For dry and frizzy hair, try using a moisturizing shampoo every few weeks

To keep your color-treated locks shiny and bright, avoid shampoos that contain sulfates like Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

If you have color-treated hair, your best bet is to avoid clarifying shampoos altogether.

Use a shampoo that says “color safe” or “sulfate-free.”

3. Apply heat protectant before styling with hot tools

Heat Protectant is the first line of defense against heat styling damage.

Before using any hot tool, be sure to apply a generous amount

Blow dryers are notorious for causing split ends and breakage when applied without protection.

If you have curly hair or frizzy locks, it is best not to use your blowdryer altogether. Instead, use a flat-iron or curling wand.

Do not apply heat to damp hair, or else you will risk drying out your locks and causing breakage.

Heat protectant is the first line of defense against heat styling damage. To prevent split ends from being caused by blow dryers, make sure that you always add this product to your hair before using any hot tool.

4. Trim split ends every few months

Trim split ends every few months to keep your hair looking healthy.

If you can see the split end poking out from under your strands, it’s time for a trim! You may also want to invest in some products that seal ends and protect them against future damage. These are easy to find- just search “split end treatments” on Amazon or Google Shopping.

5. Deep Conditioning at least once a week

Deep Conditioning is the best way to keep your hair looking strong and healthy.

At least once a week, apply conditioner for at least five minutes before rinsing out. And always use deep conditioning treatments once every few weeks (depending on how often you wash).

6. Get regular haircuts to keep hair healthy and prevent split ends from forming in the first place

Regular haircuts are a great way to keep your hair healthy, even if you don’t have split ends. Especially because the length and weight can lead to breakage, thinning or bald spots from friction on clothing
