It was built by Sir Waghji, the former ruler of Morbi. This suspension cable Bridge was built 140 years back only and was closed for public for twi years. It was recently opened on 25 October 2022, post Diwali for public.
Unfortunate Incident on Morbi Bridge October 2022
On the Sunday evening of 30th OCtober, 2022, around 400 to 500 people were present on the bridge to enjoy the holiday.
built on the Machhu river in Morbi. Due to the large crowd, the cable bridge collapsed and fell into the river. A large number of people have lost their lives in the accident.
Reportedly, the bridge had a capacity of holding only around 100 people at a time. The Gujarat government has given the responsibility of investigating the accident to the SIT.
