The patient above had an abnormality of Breast asymmetry with a smaller left breast.  The option of breast implants vs. Fat Transfer was discussed with the pt.  However, she preferred to have fat transferred to her left breast and had the fat obtained from her abdomen.  As can be seen at 2 weeks, the breasts are much closer in size.  With time, the left breast will descend more as well to be hang similarly to the right.

The advantages of autologous fat transfer over implants include:

• Uses the body’s own natural material that is living
• Tiny incisions
• Natural feet

The disadvantages of fat transfer vs. implants are:

• Limit to how much change can be made (at most a size)
• May require a touch-up a swelling resolves
• Requires liposuction of another part of the body to obtain fat, which is not feasible in thin patients
