Happy Mother’s Day 2020

Today we celebrate Mother’s Day in a different world, one where many families might not be seeing their Mother at all, or perhaps doing a Zoom call instead – something, until recently, most moms over the age of 60 have never even heard of.

Whether your mom is with you in person, or in spirit, most people would agree that being a mother is something you can’t quite put into words.  Before having my two boys, I thought that I loved intensely, but that was nothing compared to the Love I now have for my children. This otherworldly love transcends all past experiences in my life. I feel the need to fiercely protect my children and constantly surround them with love, light and joy. They will always come first no matter how much work I have, how busy I am or how sick I feel.

I need a word greater than “love” to describe how I feel.  Somehow the word doesn’t have enough meaning when used in the context of my sweet boys.  I love chocolate chip cookies and tennis too. See?

I used to be afraid that I might hug my boys so tight that I might break their ribs. But now they can do that to me.  They grow up so fast.  Sometimes I stare at them for minutes at a time and prompt them to ask, “What’s wrong mom?” Sometimes I look through old pictures and start crying, marveling at how handsome they are and how they have grown over the years. Where does this energy come from?  I’d have to ask my mom for an answer to that because I have no idea.  I don’t think she would either.  Her children are all grown, married and with children of their own, but yet she is always there for us.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the phenomenal moms out there – the ones who constantly show their love and devotion to their children and are a never ending source of comfort, happiness and support.  You are shaping the future of the world.  Motherhood has the single greatest potential on human life.  That is an enormous responsibility.  I’m especially sending love, thanks and adoration to my beautiful mom, my shining example of what being a selfless, extraordinary mom is all about.  She taught me everything I know – and gave me my dimples.
