Laser Eye Surgery: Can I Have Both Eyes Done on the Same Day? [VIDEO]

Can I have both eyes done on the same day?

Despite being the most popular elective procedure in the world, myths and misinformation surrounding the treatment continue to prevail. As a result, here at London Vision Clinic, we hear a lot of the same questions and queries cropping up time and time again.

‘Does it hurt?’, ‘What are the risks?’, ‘What if I sneeze during the procedure?’… these are just a few of the questions we answer routinely ar our consultations. Some are more difficult to answer but, fortunately, one of the most common: ‘Can I have both eyes done on the same day?‘, can be answered relatively easily.

It is understandable why this particular topic is of concern to many people. After all, what are you supposed to do when you have one Eye seeing clearly, and one that still needs glasses? I suppose you could wear a monocle, but I hear they are pretty difficult to get hold of these days.

Luckily, there is no need for that. Typically, both eyes will be treated during the same procedure – whether that be PRK/LASEK, LASIK, or ReLEx SMILE. Even better? The treatment of both eyes usually lasts no longer than 15 minutes.

That isn’t to say that both eyes are treated at exactly the same time; our surgeons are excellent, but even they might struggle with that level of multi-tasking… Instead, surgery is performed on one eye first, and then the other eye almost immediately after.

This is made possible with the help of state-of-the-art technology, combined with the experience of our surgeons, who can recognise any hint of a complication instantly. Treating both eyes at the same time minimises both surgery and recovery time – allowing you to get back to normal life as soon as possible.

Prof Reinstein answers: Do you treat both eyes at the same time?

To put this question to bed, once and for all, Professor Dan Reinstein explains in a little more detail. Watch the video below to learn more about the procedure.

As Prof. Reinstein explains, the Laser Eye Surgery industry has changed significantly over the decades. Advancements in knowledge and technology allow our surgeons to immediately assess the success of the treatment on one eye, before beginning the procedure on the second.

It is important to note, however, that every procedure will vary slightly. Every patient – and there are eyes – is different, so a tailored treatment is required. This means that the exact details of your procedure can only be determined through a thorough consultation with an expert.

Having said that, 96% of patients we see go on to have either ReLEx SMILE or LASIK surgery. Both of these options are incredibly safe and effective treatments that are suitable for myopia, hyperopia, and before the procedure.
