India is the world’s spiritual hub: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu highlighted India’s role as a source of spirituality, urging unity among diverse faiths at an event in Hyderabad.

Highlighting India’s role as the mother of Spirituality and democracy, President Droupadi Murmu on March 15 called upon the spiritual gurus to strive for harmony among the people irrespective of their different belief systems.

The President was inaugurating the 4-day Global Spirituality Mahotsav organized by the Indian Ministry of Culture in coordination with the Heartfulness Foundation at the sprawling Kanha Shanti Vanam near Hyderabad in the southern state of Telangana in India.

She said that spiritual icons such as Buddha, Mahavir, Ravidas and Guru Nanak had given India a unique identity as the global hub of spirituality. The Global Spirituality Mahotsav brought spiritual seers of diverse religious faiths to one platform to elevate collective human consciousness. Themed “Inner Peace to World Peace,” the conference aimed to foster interfaith dialogues and facilitate people of all ages and walks of life to connect with spirituality in their daily lives.

“Bharat is the land of ideals of ahimsa (nonviolence) and compassion, the knowledge of which our ancient sages gave us and to strengthen which our great spiritual gurus are guiding us,” India’s President Murmu said.

She congratulated Heartfulness founder and Padma Bhushan awardee Kamlesh D. Patel, popularly known as Daaji, for taking the Heartfulness movement to 160 countries across the world. “This is a sacred cause, aimed at amalgamating inner peace with world peace,” she said.
