Why Should Curd and Sour Substances Not Be Kept in Brass and Copper Vessels

Brass and Copper are both metal that are known to react with acid. When curd or other sour substances are kept in these vessel- acid in the food react with the metal, forming a toxic compound called copper sulfate. This compound can cause food poisoning and other health problems.

Curd and sour substance are both acidic. When they are kept in brass or copper vessel, acid in the curd reacts with the metal to form salts and hydrogen gas.

  • Lead acetate (Pb(CH3COO)2): This is a white powder. It is poisonous and can cause damage to the nervous system.

7. What are the symptoms of food poisoning caused by copper sulfate?

Symptoms of Food Poisoning Caused by copper sulfate can appear within a few hours of eating the contaminated food. They include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and headache.




8. How to prevent food poisoning caused by copper sulfate?

To prevent food poisoning caused by copper sulfate- you should avoid storing curd and other sour substance in brass or copper vessels. You should also avoid eating food that has been stored in these vessels.

9. How to protect yourself from copper sulfate poisoning?

If you think that you have consumed food that has been contaminated with copper sulfate, you should seek medical attention immediately. There is no specific antidote for copper sulfate poisoning, but the doctor may be able to treat the symptoms.
