Lighter biscuits and gravy

Today’s recipe is one of those that makes me feel like a REAL kitchen genius. When I’m able to make a dish that is my absolute FAVORITE breakfast treat… and call it healthy. I’m losing consciousness. I eat in slow motion and just smile.

Yes. I did that. I made one HEALTHIER Version of biscuits and gravy…for example…in my kitchen. I am so excited about this recipe!

Lighter biscuits and gravy

For 1 person

INGREDIENTS

1/2 Italian turkey sausage or 1 meatless sausage patty
1 low-fat Grands buttermilk biscuit (or 1/3 cup Healthy Heart Bisquick + 2 tablespoons skim milk)
1/2 cup skim milk
4 tsp. Flour
Salt
pepper
Onion powder

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and bake your grand in the oven according to the package instructions. Or you can bake your own cookie using this recipe.

2. Prepare your sausage according to package instructions. Note: I decided to try this at the last minute and used the Italian sausage. I simply removed the wrapper and fried it. If you choose the meatless patty, follow the package instructions. I’ve done it both ways…both are DELICIOUS!

3. Put all the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl and stir with a whisk.

4. Place the gravy mixture and sausage in a small saucepan. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. After about 2 minutes your sauce will thicken nicely. Taste the sauce for seasoning and add additional salt and pepper to taste. Note: I like a lot of pepper, as you’ll see…

5. Divide the biscuit and top with sauce.

6. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
