Best Magnesium Supplement Australia – for active women.

The best Magnesium supplement in Australia isn’t difficult to find due to the abundant supply available on the market. However, not all Magnesium is the same.

I have been taking the wrong type for over a year that I used to purchase on sale at a local supermarket.

Recently I started doing in-depth research into various types and brands of Magnesium trying all kinds and finally found the type that does what it is supposed to.

Here are some of the main benefits of taking good quality magnesium.

  1. Improves bone health: Magnesium is involved in bone formation and maintenance, and a deficiency may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

  2. Better sleep quality: Magnesium can help to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality, as it plays a role in the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle.

  3. Enhanced exercise performance: Magnesium is involved in energy production and muscle function, and a deficiency may lead to decreased endurance and strength.

  4. Relief from muscle cramps and spasms: Magnesium can help to relax muscles and reduce the frequency and severity of muscle cramps and spasms.

  5. Reduced risk of type 2 diabetes: Magnesium helps to regulate blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity, and a higher intake has been associated with a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

  6. Lowered risk of heart disease: Magnesium has been shown to have a protective effect on heart health, as it can help to regulate blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and improve cholesterol levels.

  7. Improved mood and stress management: Magnesium plays a role in the production of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, which can impact mood and stress levels. A magnesium deficiency has been linked to an increased risk of anxiety and depression.

What type of magnesium supplements are there?

There are several types of magnesium supplements, but they are not all the same and don’t fit the same purpose;

Here is a list of the main types and what they are commonly used for.

Magnesium Glycinate – which is the best magnesium supplement in Australia for women who lift weights, because it aids with muscle recovery through better quality sleep and reduction of muscular pain and cramps after workouts.

Magnesium Taurate – helps regulate blood sugar and blood pressure, and also can aid with anxiety.

Magnesium Citrate – tends to be a popular one on the market and in pharmacies, however, not my favourite as it can have a laxative effect. The good thing about it is, it is very easily absorbed so for someone with magnesium deficiency this can be a good thing.

Magnesium Chloride – is good for relaxing sore muscles, and helps with constipation and sometimes heartburn.

Magnesium Lactate – easy on digestion for those who are deficient so larger doses can be tolerated by the stomach. Helpful for stress and anxiety.

Magnesium L-threonate – is often used to manage depression and overall brain function.

Magnesium Sulfate – usually comes in the form of Epsom salt that is used for a relaxing bath.

Magnesium Orotate – helpful to improve heart health, and improves the function of heart and blood vessels.

Magnesium Malate – usually used for magnesium deficiency and treatments of symptoms of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

Magnesium Oxide – there is a reason why it is last on my list, although it is used for heartburn and indigestion, it is very poorly absorbed making it not worth the money. However, be aware that many brands in pharmacies sell this type because it is the cheapest to make.

Why I recommend Magnesium Glycinate to women who lift weights?

The best magnesium supplement in Australia available that I recommend for women who lift weight is Magnesium Glycinate for 3 main reasons;

  1. It is ideal for sleep and sleep is very important for muscle growth as it is the time when our bodies recover and most of the growth happens during recovery.

2. It is very bioavailable meaning it absorbs well helping women with muscular cramps which we may experience after training.

3. And specifically for women it can be helpful with menstrual cramps, which can sometimes be a setback when it comes to being able to hit the gym consistently, due to discomfort and pain, especially for women who suffer from PCOS according to Pub Med Library of Medicine.

Which types of magnesium I would avoid?

I would avoid Magnesium Oxide as it is poorly absorbed making it minimally effective and Magnesium Citrate because of its laxative effect, unless someone suffers from constipation then it could actually be helpful for them.

Many of my clients and I noticed issues with diarrhea when taking Magnesium Citrate, but it doesn’t mean it will necessarily affect everyone this way.

My top pick.

I prefer capsules for convenience so the 2 brands I often go for are the BMVINVOL – 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐆𝐥𝐲𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 Capsules  – 𝟒 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 – Amazon & Double Wood – Magnesium Glycinate – 6 months supply – Amazon. I also like that it is the best value for money and lasts for several months meaning I don’t have to remember to restock every 1-2 months.
