5 ways to increase collagen production

As we have already seen, Collagen Production is very important for dark circles. This is especially true for bluish looking dark circles caused by too thin skin under the eyes. With increased collagen production, the thin skin is strengthened and the blood vessels are less visible. In this article, I will share five ways to stimulate this process.

1. Retinol

Retinol is the technical term for vitamin A. Like vitamin C, retinol helps topically with local increase in production. A serum or eye cream containing retinol helps when applied around the eyes. It is important that it is patted in gently rather than rubbed in firmly. This would only further irritate the skin.

A good retinol serum is for example the one from Orlette on Amazon.

2. Collagen/Gelatin

This is probably not a big surprise. Collagen (or gelatin powder) ingested with food also has a positive effect on collagen production. The gelatin powder from the supermarket is often difficult to dissolve. But there are alternatives such as the powder from Left Coast Performance on Amazon, which dissolves more quickly in hot water.

3. Red light

It is also helpful to shine red light on the face. Several studies have shown the rejuvenating effect on the skin (e.g. here or here). It also stimulates blood circulation, which can have a positive effect on the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. Red light also has other benefits for the skin. For example, wound healing is accelerated and pimple marks disappear faster.

On Amazon, for example, you can get a lot of devices like tis one.

4. Hyaluronic Acid

Although difficult to pronounce, hyaluronic acid has been the talk of the town for several years. The active ingredient is now used in some cosmetics and is especially known for its anti-aging effect. In a study on wound healing, researchers found that the skin around a wound treated with hyaluronic acid contained more collagen.

Like retinol, hyaluronic acid can also be applied to the skin as a serum.

5. Vitamin C

We have already seen this in more detail. Vitamin C can improve dark circles both internally and externally. This applies both to dark circles caused by excessively thin skin and those caused by hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C not only stimulates collagen production, but also lightens the skin when applied externally.
