Public Health Wales plans to tighten regulations on vaping devices. New restrictions could include restrictions on vape packaging, ban on disposable vapes sale and ban on displaying vapes in stores.

The Health agency also says it strongly supports raising the age limit for the sale of tobacco products.

Public Health Wales says the actions are aiming at combating the significant increase in vaping among children and young people.

What’s more, it also points out the environmental hazards of disposable vapes.

In addition, the agency says that while vapes help adult smokers quit smoking, they also induce smoking in people who have never smoked.

The Welsh and central governments has plan to ban the disposable vapes sale earlier this year. And the British government is currently conducting a public consultation on further measures to reduce the use of vapes.

Public Health Wales‘ main focus is on children and young people. The agency believes that restricting vaping products selling ways would help address issues relate to youth addiction to vapes.

Dr Julie Bishop, Director of Health Improvement at Public Health Wales, says Public Health Wales supports tough action to increase the age limit for tobacco sales in England. It also supports new regulations to vapes selling and marketing ways to bring them into line with tobacco products.

“We welcome the fact that the UK Government consultation asked specifically about the packaging and display of vapes. As we strongly believe that these products should be sold in standardised packaging in plain colors with no logos, as is currently the case with tobacco products.”

“Vapes should also be stored behind the counter, and not on display, to mirror the approach for tobacco products. These measures have been very effective in tackling smoking uptake amongst children and young people.”

Public Health Wales also advocates for regulation of vape flavoring in its response to a public consultation. This includes restrictions on vape product names and proposing a legally define vape flavor list. At the same time, banning those flavors that are particularly attractive to young people.
