ELFBAR, LOST MARY Abandon Dessert & Soft Drink Flavor Vapes

Tags: vapes vape elfbar

Well-known vape brands Elfbar and LOST MARY in the British market announce that they will abandon dessert and soft drink flavored vapes. These has been criticized for attracting minors. At the same time, they call for the introduction of a licensing system similar to that of cigarettes and alcohol.

According to data from data company Nielsen IQ, ELFBAR and LOST MARY vape sales account for more than half of disposable vape sales in the UK. These two brands belong to IMiracle.

The UK government’s public consultation on new vape regulations will end on December 6.

ELFBAR has stopped producing vapes with flavors such as bubble gum, marshmallow, and rainbow candy. In addition, more flavors will soon be taken off the shelves. Although the flavor “Gummy Bears” have been renamed “Gummy”, they will also soon be removed from the shelves.

While it will take some time for the changes to filter through the supply chain, they claim they will be visible on shelves soon. Moreover, they also seek tighter restrictions on vape sales, including requiring retail licenses, requiring the vapes displaying behind counters.

An ELFBAR spokesman says, “The introduction of such a regime would mitigate children’s access to vapes and make it easier for the authorities to better regulate the sale of vaping devices. Furthermore, we believe it would help combat the growing illicit vape market and drive increased rates of vape recycling.”

British American Tobacco (BAT) has also expressed support for the introduction of a licensing system.

However, ELFBAR also express opposition to the introduction of new taxes similar to those on tobacco.

They believe that new taxes could encourage former smokers to switch to illegal vapes, or to start smoking cigarettes again.

On the other hand, Hazel Cheeseman, deputy chief executive of the anti-smoking charity ASH, says that increasing taxes on vapes is important to control the illegal market. And it will lead to more stringent regulations and control on products at the border.

What;s more, according to a survey this year, ASH found that 50% of teenagers aged 11 to 17 who have tried vapes have used ELFBAR. And 25% have tried LOST MARY.

SKE, the UK’s second largest vape seller, have not respond to this inquiry.

Many councils call for total ban on disposable vapes due to their attraction to minors, environmental pollution and fire risks.

According to Nielsen IQ statistics, ELFBAR and LOST MARY sold more than £900 million worth of vapes in 12 months. The average sales sets is more than 160 million sets. However, these figures only account for half of the vape market, many tobacco shops, online retailers and convenience stores are not including in. Therefore, the actual number may be twice this figure.

A public consultation on the regulation of vapes will end on December 6. Then, England, Scotland and Wales may introduce relevant laws as soon as possible.
