Sandwich Generation – Definition

The “sandwich generation” is a term used to describe a group of people who are caught between caring for their aging parents and raising their own children. This group is said to be “sandwiched” between two generations, hence the name. The Sandwich Generation typically consists of people in their 30s to 50s who are facing the dual pressures of providing financial and emotional support for both their parents and their children. This can be a challenging and stressful time, as members of the sandwich generation often have to juggle work, family responsibilities, and caregiving duties. However, it can also be a rewarding time, as it provides an opportunity to support and strengthen family bonds across generations.
