GMC Baramulla withdraws services of specialist doctors at Urban Training Health Centre

Baramulla: In an unexpected decision, the administration of the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir decided to withdraw the services of the specialist doctors at the Urban Training Health Centre.

The appointments of the specialists including general medicine, paediatrician, dermatologists, and other experts, were made by the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla which had played an important role in improving the health services of the region. The local people of the region also welcomed the move when the appointments were made.

The people in the region are not happy with the current move and have expressed their displeasure as well. Manzoor Ahmad Kababi, a local resident, said, "Doesn’t the health of the people in Old Town matter? It is disheartening to see this decision made without any accountability or concern for our well-being,"

Another resident, Firdous Ahmad of Mohalla Mir Sahib informed the Greater Kashmir, "I visited the centre on Wednesday to show my five-year-old son to the paediatrician. But, I was dejected after knowing that the concerned doctor is no more available at the center." He added that the specialist doctors had helped in improving the health services in the region, and the number of patients had also increased.

The withdrawal would be eventually affecting the patients a lot. Chief Medical Officer Baramulla, Dr Bashir Ahmad, said that the training health centre was set up with a goal to train medical officers and paramedical staff. He said, "The GMC Baramulla had initially initiated additional services at the centre but later decided to withdraw them and reason can be sought from the GMC authorities only."

Stating that the services of the specialist doctors would be resumed soon, Principal Government Medical College Baramulla, Dr Rubi Reshi said that they had begun the services for the benefit of the people in the region only. "Once the administrative control of the centre is granted, the services would be resumed," said Dr Rubi.
