Patna: Providing major relief to the students pursuing Medical education in the State, the Bihar Government has decided to charge government fees in 585 seats belonging to nine Private Medical Colleges.
Therefore, the students getting admitted to half of the seats in private Medical Colleges will have to pay Rs 40,800 as enrolment fees, and Rs 22,000 as annual fees instead of Rs 13 lakh annual fees payable at the private medical colleges of the State.
Following the order of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the State Government of Bihar has now fixed the education fees in all the government medical colleges and issued an order in this regard.

Apart from this, the State has also fixed the fees for the open seats in all the private medical colleges, adds Prabhat Khabar. The daily adds that in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, the State has fixed the educational fees in five private medical colleges.
Medical Dialogues had reported that the health department in Bihar has fixed the fee structure for MBBS courses at 5 private medical colleges for 2021-2026.
These five medical colleges include Radha Devi Jageshwari Memorial Medical College and Hospital, Muzaffarpur, Shri Narayan Medical Institute & Hospital Saharsa, Lord Buddha Koshi Medical College and Hospital Saharsa, Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital Bihata, Madhubani Medical College & Hospital Madhubani. The fee structure, which includes tuition fee and development charges, ranges between Rs 7.98 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh.
Referring to the Supreme Court order, the State has mentioned in the order that apart from the tuition fees, the students will also have to pay the hostel fees, transport fees, mess etc. separately to the institute.
The order further clarifies that if the colleges charge more than the prescribed fees, they will have to return the extra fee money to the students. Further, the fees charged will have to be according to the rates fixed by the fee regulatory committee in the State.
The decision of the Bihar Government to charge government fees at half of the total seats at private medical colleges has been in line of the National Medical Commission (NMC) implemented in this regard.
In that order issued back in February 2022, NMC, the Apex Medical Body had clarified that the fees of 50 per cent seats in the private medical colleges would be at par with the government medical colleges of that particular State/UT.
"After extensive consultations, it has been decided that the fee of the 50 per cent seats in the private medical colleges and deemed universities should be at par with the fee in the government medical colleges of that particular State and UT. The benefit of this fee structure would be first made available to those candidates who have availed government quota seats, but are limited to the extent of 50 per cent of the total sanctioned strength of the respective medical college/deemed university," NMC had mentioned in the notification.
"However, if the government quota seats are less than 50 per cent of total sanctioned seats, the remaining candidates would avail the benefit of a fee equivalent to the government medical college fees, based purely on the merit," NMC had added.
