Top 5 Isekai Anime

Isekai is most likely one of the Anime genres that is experiencing a boom right now. As a result, a ton of new shows are airing, but the only thing that comes in large quantities is garbage. I'm sure there will be more to come, but Isekai's popularity has become the primary factor in its demise. Isekai as a genre is boring because there are simply too many anime, and the majority of them feel like someone has inserted different characters' names and some events into the same story line, which is perhaps why Isekai as a genre is not taken seriously. However, there are always exceptions, and these 5 anime are 5 of those exceptions.

  1. Overlord

  2. Re: Zero

  3. That time I got reincarnated as a slime

  4. Kono Suba

  5. Rising of the Shield Hero

Overlord

Overview

When it comes to Isekai Anime, Overlord does justice to its name. Overlord is maybe the best Isekai anime ever made. If animation, story, music, character design, epic fight scenes, and hilarious dark comedy are all parts of a puzzle, then Madhouse Studios has done a great job of putting every piece of that puzzle together perfectly. Everything is just perfect about this anime; there is literally nothing about this series to complain about. Once you start watching Overlord, you can't stop yourself from completing it.

Story synopsis

The Story of Overlord takes place in the year 2138, where a DMMO-RPG (Dive Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) called Yggdrasil is about to shut down after a successful 12-year run. Momonga, aka Ainz, decides to stay and see the final hour of his favorite game through to the very end, and then the clock ticks and it is the time of the great logout, but then Momonga finds that everything is still running but looks more real and animated.

Unique Aspect

The thing that makes Overlord different from all the other Isekai and action anime is its protagonist, or should I say antagonist, Ainz. Instead of following the journey of a noble teenager who is pure from the heart and who has just found his power and wants to do good with it, we get to see a story from the point of view of a villain who is rational, who prepares for everything and is ready to face it all to save what is dear to him, and to achieve it, he'll do everything wicked to noble anything for the win. In short, Overlord doesn't follow the old cliches of storytelling.

Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World

Overview

Re: Zero  is probably the darkest Isekai anime out there. The way it has set its story and developed its plot is seriously remarkable. Other than that, the characters in Re: Zero  are well thought out and written, plus the side characters are also given their chance to shine, and their backstories are also so cool. There are some arcs dedicated to side characters as well, which is becoming kinda rare these days, so it was nice to see people still working on the side characters instead of focusing the whole series on the main characters.

Story synopsis

Subaru Natsuki got transported into another world on his way from the convenience store and immediately got into trouble with some thugs in the alleyway, where he was saved by Emilia, a silver-haired Half Elf. Together with Emelia, Subaru is now on a mission to retrieve Emilia's stolen insignia, but they die in the pursuit. Later when Subaru finds himself again in the same spot on which he was reincarnated earlier, with some trial and error in the new world, Subaru figures out his abilities. Return by Death, which allows him to come back from death to a certain point in the past,

Unique Aspect

We watch fictional tales because we are so fed up watching all that human stuff, but that's not the case with Re: Zero . Being relatable, struggles is what makes Re: Zero  different from other Animes out there. Subaru choices have consequences and each time he learns with them. And if you really want to watch something different, what can be more different than death itself? Although we are familiar with the concept of coming back from the dead thanks to video games, this series shows the same old thing that we were used to seeing in a different light.

That time I got reincarnated as a slime

Overview

An anime's animation, plot, characters, soundtrack, and other elements must all be excellent for it to be great, right? Without all those elements, That time I got reincarnated as a slime was good. Don't misunderstand me. Its animation, plot, characters, music, etc. are all perfect, but It is not known for them, simplicity is the reason for its popularity. When you watch this series, there is no pressure to get anywhere or beat anyone; instead, the plot merely flows like a river, and once you dive in, there is no way to get out again.

Story synopsis

Office worker Satoru Mikami meets an untimely demise while trying to protect his colleague from a robber as he is drawing his last breath. He was thinking about how he had lived his life and about the things he wanted to do in his life and would do if he ever got another chance. With these thoughts, Satoru left the world, but to his surprise, he could still think and feel his surroundings, but somehow his body felt weird, which was because he was reincarnated, yes, you've guessed right, as a slime. Soon after, he meets the Great Storm Dragon Veldora, and from there, an interesting story unfolds.

Unique Aspect

That time I got reincarnated as a slime is different from other Isekai anime in many ways, not just in the Isekai genre; it is different even in the action and adventure genre. You can search the whole anime library and still not find something quite like it. A slime monster builds a nation from scratch. Okay, forget about slime (it's not your normal slime) and focus on building a nation. I personally haven't seen anything like this before or since. It was a fun and exciting concept. I hope I get to see something like it even more in the future.

Kono Suba

Overview

That's not common what I asked for but this is good. When absurdity meets comedy you get kono suba. Series is a mess from the very Start whether you talk about the "heroic death of Kazuma"  and just don't get me started on all of our favorite goddess Aqua and if you think absurdity ends here then you can't be any wrong because we haven't even talked about her i.e, Megumin. And I don't really have any words about darkness. Want to see something where the protagonist is not that very special you got your anime.

Story synopsis

Kazuma Satuo, a 17 years old in house shut-in gamer dies a very "heroic death" while trying to save a girl. After that he met Aqua, a goddess who was responsible for reincarnating young peoples who died in Japan into other Worlds. Aqua tells him the story of how exactly he died and then made fun of him dying that way and laughed on his face. Kazuma then decides to take revenge on her by dragging her into the world along with him. They then embark on a journey to slay the Devil King along the way they picked up some misfit companions.

Unique Aspect

Comedy is about all this series has to offer in terms of uniqueness. And man this series does a very good job at it. It's not common for a series to get carried away by its one aspect but if one is then it has to be something out of the ordinary. Without it this series would have been a classic example of Isekai cliche and trash. If you are looking for a fun anime to watch then kono suba would be worth your time, it's not everyday you get to see a useless goddess in action after all.

Rising of the Shield Hero

Overview

Rising of the Shield Hero is the perfect example of how a repetitively used, run-of-the-mill concept can be turned into something thrilling and exciting with some creativity. The Rising of the Shield hero is both old and new and unique in terms of storyline. It explores and deepens gerne, unlike what other anime have done before. It was an interesting watch, and its core element of revenge made it even more interesting, which will keep your anticipation going throughout the series. Aneko Yusagi and Aiya Kyū have really done a great job with the pen, and Kinema Citrus really did an outstanding job adapting it to motion pictures.

Story Synopsis

Naofumi Iwatani, along with three other people, is summoned into another world to be one of the four chosen heroes to fight off the waves of calamity and save the Melromarc Kingdom and the world from its prophesied demise. Though things were not like Naofumi had imagined, due to his less offensive capability, he was labeled as the weakest hero. Because of this fact, he was betrayed and framed by his own party member, Myne Melromarc. Because of this bitterd Event, Naofumi is now on a journey  to get revenge on those who have wronged him.

Unique Aspect

This anime's story is bound to take you by surprise. It's different from all the other Isekai anime. After being transported into another world, Naofumi doesn't receive the treatment that other Isekai protagonists receive; instead, he is hated for what he is, i.e., Shield Hero. He was betrayed, framed, and hated by many for the fact. Though our MC is also not like other protagonists, he doesn't believe in forgiveness; he believes in revenge. It's the story of a disliked hero who became the greatest

of them all.
