Labour Party, Peter Obi Failed To Prove Tinubu Was Convicted Of Money Laundering In US – Tribunal

According to Sahara Reporters, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal ruled that Peter Obi and the Labour Party failed to prove Bola Tinubu was convicted of money laundering in the United States.

The five-judge panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani rejected arguments by Obi and the LP that Tinubu was not legally qualified to contest the election due to a previous conviction and $460,000 fine by a U.S. District Court for an offense related to dishonesty and drug trafficking.

The Tribunal held there were no records of Tinubu’s arrest in the U.S. and he still enjoyed unimpeded access, so the allegations were discounted.

The judges found the petitioners did not show Tinubu was charged, fined, found guilty or jailed for the alleged drug offense.

In a separate ruling, the Tribunal dismissed claims by Obi and the LP that Tinubu failed to score 25% of votes in the Federal Capital Territory, declaring the argument irrelevant.

The Tribunal also sacked the All Progressives Congress senator representing Kogi Central, Yakubu Oseni, declaring Natasha Akpoti of the Social Democratic Party the winner.

The rulings were major victories for Tinubu in the legal battle over the disputed 2023 presidential election brought by Obi and the LP. Key allegations against Tinubu were rejected.
