Weight loss: 8 myths preventing you from losing weight.

The new year is here, and along with it so are the resolutions. One of the most popular resolution for mankind has always been that of weight loss or body transformation.

What is the first thing people do when they make the resolution to lose weight? Well, they Google it. Now even though Google is arguably the best source of knowledge in the world, it's also arguably the worst.

That is because, to an untrained person it's extremely difficult to sort the authentic from the bogus information, in the sea of knowledge that is Google. Such is the case with the popular question "How to lose weight?" as well. This can lead to people making mistakes, which at times can be harmful to their health.

So here are some of the most common myths and reliable tips for weight loss, to help you finally achieve that elusive new year's Resolution.

Most common myths about weight loss.

1 You need extreme exercise regimens to lose weight

Not true. Efficient and lasting body transformation requires changes that are sustainable long time. Adding an intensive workout right from the start, is a recipe for failure. According to experts, adults should have atleast 150 minutes of physical activity in a week. This includes walking, cycling e.t.c. You don't need to start extreme workout regimens, right from the start and instead build up your strength and stamina, one step at a time. It's about the quality and longevity not the quantity of exercise.

2 Carbs are the big bad villain.

Many people would advise you to cut out Carbs from your diet, otherwise forget weight loss. This is extremely unadvisable, as carbs are the primary energy source for the human body. No carbs equals No energy, and no energy equals lesser stamina for exercise. Eat complex instead of simple carbs, and never ever cut them off completely.

3 Extreme dieting is the way.

Just like exercise, you need to make changes that last you a lifetime. Extreme diets may infact produce massive results in a very short time. However, they never last and it has been proven in many studies, that right after a extreme diet, many people infact rebound and put on twice as much as they had before.

4 Weight loss and fat burning pills.

While there are some prescription medications which indeed do help lose weight, they are usually reserved as a last resort when there is an imminent health risk involved. Drugs, no matter which one, all have one thing in common, "adverse effects". Therefore, unless prescribed by your doctor NEVER opt for weight loss pills.

5 Fat must be cut off from the diet.

Just like with carbs, fats are essential for our body and mind to function properly. Cutting them off can affect your hormone production, energy reserves, mood and mental health. Opt for healthier choices and never cut off essential fats from your diet.

6 Drinking a large amount of water helps weight loss.

While water is essential for good health, you don't need to forcefully drink excessive amounts of water in order to lose weight. The popular myth "8 glasses of water" is as mentioned, a myth and have no scientific proof.

7 Skipping meals is a good idea.

While you do need to consume lesser calories than you burn, generally,  Skipping Meals is highly unadvised by medical experts. Infact skipping meals has shown in many cases to increase the amount of unhealthy snacks consumption. This in turn can actually hurt rather than help your goals of weight loss.

8 No snacks.

While snacks are often believed to be the biggest contributor to weight gain, cutting them is not the solution. It's not the act of eating snack that's important, it's the type of snack being eaten. You need to switch to healthier options to make sure your hunger is satiated without making you gain weight.

With all this in mind, it is important to say that every person is different and everyone's weight loss journey must be tailored to them. Always seek the help of a trained professional and follow only authentic scientific guidelines.

Remember, Consistency and sustainability is the key to life long body transformation.
