How Much Weight Can You Lose on Adipex?

by Anand Thakkar, MD. ~

Whether you’re just starting out on your weight loss journey or you’re keen to overcome a plateau, weight loss medications can help you to succeed.

One such option is Adipex-P, the most popular branded version of the generic weight loss drug phentermine HCL. As a phentermine-based diet pill, Adipex supports weight loss by suppressing appetite, boosting your energy levels, and accelerating the breakdown of stored fat.

So, how much weight can you lose on Adipex? While the exact answer depends on a lot of factors, Adipex can help you transform your lifestyle and reach your weight loss goals faster. Keep reading to find out how.

What is Adipex?

Let us understand what exactly Adipex is.

As detailed above, Adipex is a brand-name weight loss medication that contains 37.5 mg of Phentermine Hcl as its active ingredient. The doctor at your weight loss clinic might use the names Adipex and phentermine interchangeably as Adipex is always phentermine. There are other options for weight loss besides Adipex pills.

Phentermine has been around since the 1950s and there’s a lot of research to support its efficacy as a diet pill. So, while the brand name Adipex only dates back to the 1990s, its main ingredient is an established weight loss medication with proven results.

How Adipex Enhances Weight Loss

The phentermine HCL that Adipex contains is primarily an appetite suppressant. This means that Adipex works to keep you feeling fuller for longer while also cutting cravings and making it easier for you to control your portion sizes.

Phentermine acts to reduce appetite by stimulating the hypothalamus gland to send out ‘satisfaction’ messages via specific neurotransmitters in the brain. These are the kinds of messages that your brain would usually generate after consuming significant amounts of food. Thanks to this, many patients can focus without the hunger pangs that would usually sabotage their weight loss efforts.

Another way that Adipex improves your weight loss potential is by boosting your energy levels. Here, the stimulant effects of phentermine make it easier for you to lead a more active life, while also stimulating fat burn.

This winning combination makes Adipex pills an efficient tool for kick-starting your new lifestyle plan and improving weight loss outcomes.

How Much Weight Can You Lose on Adipex?

Now you know how you lose weight on Adipex, we’ll take a look at the amount of weight you can expect to shed.

How much weight you lose can vary a lot from person to person and depends on a range of factors. These include the diet you follow, the Adipex dosage you’re taking, your starting weight and your gender. Environmental variables also play a role, as do other genetic factors such as medical conditions like hypothyroidism and family history.

On average, the expected weight loss with Adipex is five percent of your starting weight or more. Over 12 weeks, it’s possible to lose as much as 10 percent of your initial body weight. If you start off weighing 200 lbs, you can expect an Adipex weight loss total of 10 to 20 lbs within the first three months.

A 2006 Korean study echoed these figures, with close to 87 percent of the experimental phentermine group losing 5 percent or more of their baseline weight and an incredible 50 percent losing 10 percent or more. As well as losing a far more significant amount of weight than the placebo group, the phentermine group lost an average of 16.5 lbs. This works out as around 5 lbs per month or a little over 1 lb per week.

Prior to this, a retrospective UCLA study analyzed the weight loss results of 188 male and female phentermine users. While following a very low-calorie diet of 500 to 800 calories per day, the patients exercised around 45 minutes a day, three times a week. After 12 weeks, the female phentermine patients had lost an average of 17.6 lbs and the male patients 21.3 lbs. This is an average monthly weight loss rate of 6.3 and 7.6 lbs respectively.

Anticipating Your Adipex Results

There are no studies done so far, that can help you calculate precisely how much weight you will lose.

Of the two detailed above, the Korean one is most relevant to Adipex users as the experimental group took 37.5 mg of phentermine per day. This is the same amount of phentermine HCL in Adipex pills. As such, this research indicates that even with a 1,500 calorie diet and no structured exercise regime. You could also lose at least five percent of your starting weight.

The UCLA study lost more, but the restrictive diet is not recommended for long-term weight loss. That said, these patients only took between 8 mg and 30 mg of phentermine HCL per day. It is promising to see what even smaller doses of phentermine could help you achieve.

Studies into phentermine weight loss have shown that losses are always highest in the early months. This is a common pattern among almost all weight loss methods. This is why most Adipex prescriptions are often for a limited period of 12 to 16 weeks. Placebo groups regained their lost weight after three months, those taking phentermine maintained their weight loss beyond this period.

Start Your Adipex Weight Loss Plan Today

As this Adipex weight loss guide shows, it’s one of the most popular diet pills around today for a reason. Phentermine, a well-established, well-researched appetite suppressant and stimulant, is the main ingredient of Adipex. It has helped many people achieve the weight loss results they’ve been unable to attain through diet and exercise alone.

As for the key question, ‘how much weight can you lose on Adipex?’, a confident answer would be five to 10 percent of whatever you weigh now. The exact amount of weight you lose will depend on your starting weight and other factors. Adipex could be exactly what you need to jumpstart your journey to weight loss success.

Adipex diet pills are a prescription only medication and is not recommended to be taken without consulting a doctor.
