Who Is a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Do you look in the mirror and see yourself as more tired than you are? Do the facial spots on your face make you appear more aged than you actually are?

Laser skin rejuvenation is a safe and effective way to erase years and restore your Skin to its state before age, sun exposure, or your lifestyle affects it. The therapy removes the top layer of skin from problematic regions using short bursts of focused light, revealing softer, cleaner skin beneath.

Laser skin resurfacing: what is it?

Laser resurfacing is an effective treatment for scars and wrinkles; it improves skin pigmentation and tightens the skin.

Lasers target uneven skin with quick, strong light pulses. Laser skin resurfacing precisely removes skin layers by vaporizing them. Lasers remove the epidermis and heat the dermis. Lasers stimulate collagen fibre growth, resulting in firmer, smoother skin. Lasabrasion, rapid peel, and laser sublimation are other names for this popular treatment.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

  • Liver spots or ageing spots
  • Birthmark surgery scars
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Swollen nose oil glands

Laser resurfacing may cause inflammation or discolouration in very dark skin. Discuss keloid scarring with darker-skinned people.

Preparation and Aftercare:

The doctor may sedate and numb smaller areas with a local anaesthetic. General anaesthesia may be needed to treat your entire face. Only a section of the face might be treated in 30–45 minutes, making a two-hour facial treatment possible.

After surgery, your skin may itch or sting for 12–72 hours. Laser resurfacing causes dry, peeling skin five to seven days afterwards. Depending on the condition, healing can take 10–21 days. Use oil-free cosmetics once the skin heals to reduce redness. This redness usually fades in two to three months.

Another crucial element is keeping newborn skin wet. After six weeks or until your doctor approves, you can use glycolic acid or Retin A products.

After healing, makeup can hide the pink to red tint left by laser skin resurfacing. We can do this after the areas heal. Green-based makeups minimize skin redness during recovery, making them ideal for disguise. After laser resurfacing, use oil-free makeup. Laser treatment redness usually fades in two to three months, but it may take six to twelve months to dissipate. Those with blonde or red hair suffer redness longer.

Darker skin types are more likely to recover with hyperpigmentation. Bleaching chemicals can lighten skin following laser skin resurfacing. Your doctor will see you.

Laser Resurfacing Benefits

Even though resurfacing cannot provide flawless skin, it can improve its appearance. The procedure may pose these risks:

  • Laser heat can burn or damage.
  • Leaving marks
  • Skin pigmentation changes, including darker or lighter areas
  • Bacteria may cause cold sores from herpes reactivation.

Skincare After laser Resurfacing:

The treatment may cause raw skin, yellow fluids, or blistering. To avoid scarring or infection, avoid picking at or crusting the skin.

Laser resurfacing causes five to seven days of dry, peeling skin. Your skin will start pink. It should lighten during the following two to three months.

  • Your doctor may recommend cleaning the treatment area twice to five times a day.
  • For the first four days after treatment, sleep on an extra pillow to reduce oedema.
  • During the first 24–48 hours, use a wrapped ice pack or compress for 15 minutes every one to two hours.
  • A thin covering of petroleum jelly (or other occlusive lotion) or an antibiotic lotion (such as bacitracin) should be used twice daily until the skin heals.
  • Avoid strong face treatments like tretinoin or glycolic acid, which dry for four weeks, and topical creams that can irritate the skin for six weeks after treatment.
  • Avoid flushing-causing activities for a week after therapy.
  • Avoid smoking at all costs. Smoking slows healing.
