You have to keep in mind the light source in the room, if it is to the right or to the left of the object it will be dark and vice versa. Shading can be achieved by using darker colors, no color at all, or smudging.

Adding shadows: This is about adding more detail to ensure your form gives the impression of being three-dimensional. You will need to employ the same sort of observational techniques described earlier to see how shadows appear according to where the light touches the object or subject. You also need to see how these shadows change in reaction to light moving or becoming brighter or dimmer.
