How To Draw Step By Step – Drawing Tutorials for Beginners

How To Draw Step: Even though drawing is considered to be a natural talent you are not necessarily born with the ability to draw– it can be learned. The art of drawing has been around since the time of the early man. It was known to be the first form of communication. As with all skills we acquire, we start by learning the simplest aspects of drawing, and once we’ve learned the basic skills move on to more complex subjects and ideas.

There are various media to draw with – charcoal, crayons, colored pencils, pens, or even the computer but most start off with a lead pencil. Rather than simply dive in and try to draw by copying images it is best to break your lesson down into various steps.

Start off with observation. This is about not just seeing an object you’ve chosen to draw but analyzing its fundamental aspects such as form, tone, color, and texture. Develop your skill in identifying the key geometric shapes of an object and its curves and form.

How To Draw Step By Step

You need to master the three basic lines that will form the basis of any drawing. These are straight, curved, and angled lines. As they are essential to the learning process, practice these lines over and over again to get really good at it. Vary the length and thickness, try lots of different angles and practice a whole range of curves from shallow to very deep.

Understand perspective: Perspective is how objects appear relative to each other to the eye. In drawing terms it’s about using geometric rules that represent the object in reality. We know how big a house is but far away it can appear as small as a mouse. By getting the perspective right in your drawing it will be more realistic and visually correct(of course this doesn’t apply to abstract creations).

Shading: Getting this part right is very important for the object to look real and three-dimensional. It is about understanding where the light source of your drawing is and applying the shading accordingly. You have to keep in mind the light source in the room, if it is to the right or to the left of the object it will be dark and vice versa. Shading can be achieved by using darker colors, no color at all, or smudging.

Adding shadows: This is about adding more detail to ensure your form gives the impression of being three-dimensional. You will need to employ the same sort of observational techniques described earlier to see how shadows appear according to where the light touches the object or subject. You also need to see how these shadows change in reaction to light moving or becoming brighter or dimmer.
