How to Speed Up Boot Time on PC or Laptop

Do you want to know the best ways how to speed up Boot Time on your PC or Laptop? In this article, we are going to share with you the best ways to speed up Boot Time on your PC or Laptop.

Many factors can cause a Computer to start up more slowly than when it was new. Viruses and malware are the worst offenders, but there are many other considerations. Each thing by itself may not be important, but added together they can slow down start-up time to a crawl.

One of the biggest causes of a slow start-up is malware and spyware, not to mention viruses. If you have not already done so, you should install antivirus software on your computer and keep it up to date. You should also use such software to run regular virus scans to check for any viruses or worms that may have slipped through the net.

Less serious than viruses are malware and spyware. Although not as malicious as viruses, in the sense of destroying or taking over a computer, these programs can install themselves sneakily when you install other software, and they can then spy on your activities as well as hogging computer resources by sending reports back over the internet. Spyware and malware programs install themselves without your knowledge and are configured to auto-start when the computer boots up. This means they slow down start uptime, as well as the impact on performance when you use the computer for various tasks.

How do I Speed Up Boot Time on a PC or Laptop?

There are many programs you can download that will eradicate spyware and malware from your computer. Perhaps the most well-known of these is Lavasoft’s Adaware. You should download Adaware or another such reputable program to remove nuisance software from your PC. However, you should be wary of some programs found on Google that advertise themselves as anti-spyware and malware programs but which themselves are malware. Always check the credentials of any program before downloading it.

Another thing that can slow down the start-up of a PC is the tendency for many legitimate installed programs to set themselves up to autoload tray icons and background services when the computer starts up. You should use the Windows Task Manager to find out what services are running on your computer when it first starts up. If you use a program infrequently, it does not make sense to have a component of it loading invisibly as a background service or tray icon every time you start your computer. In addition to slowing start time, these services continue to run in the background, wasting valuable memory.

The Task Manager can show you the different services running on your PC but it is not a tool for changing the configuration of the computer. To do this you should go to your Start menu and select ‘Run’. Next, type in ‘MSConfig’, and when the console loads select the ‘Startup’ tab. Here you can untick items that are set to autoload when your PC starts. Be careful, though, before disabling essential services. You should do your research and find out what any services are before disabling them. But provided you are careful, you can use this tool to stop all kinds of non-essential services from autorunning, and it will undoubtedly speed up the boot time of your PC.

Another factor that slows down the start-up time of a Windows PC is having a great many desktop icons. Unless you use them frequently you should be wary of having too many desktop icons on your screen. Fortunately,, Windows has a wizard that auto launches every so often, inviting you to remove unused desktop icons, and you should take advantage of this to get rid of items you never use but which slow down the load time of your desktop.

Other, less common factors can drastically slow down the load time of a computer. These can relate to a corrupted Windows Registry, or to software that you have installed that has become corrupted in some way. Unfortunately,, these problems can be complex and as such are beyond the scope of this article.
