The Surprising Secrets Revealed on Ashley Graham’s Undercover Boss Episode

Graham was also a waitress at TGI Fridays and had to make some tough decisions regarding table seating when she was given an unfair advantage by a spoiled guest.

Other bosses who went undercover included Nader Masadeh, president and CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings & Rings restaurants, who discovered that his restaurants weren’t providing great customer service. He was able to fix the problem after returning to his office and taking immediate action. Shawnon Bellah, chief operating officer at Crest Foods Inc., the largest privately-owned chain of supermarkets in the United States, failed to meet her company’s high standards for customer service when she worked as a cashier at one of their stores. She was unable to resolve the issue when she returned to her office.

Paul Damico, president and CEO of Round Table Pizza, goes undercover to learn effective ways to expand the franchise’s business in order to attract a younger clientele. He also tries his hand at being a line dance instructor to over 1,000 party-goers and finds himself in hot water when an employee recognizes him. Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto goes undercover as a municipal worker to find out how the city of his hometown is running and meets an employee who claims he didn’t vote for him.

Michael G. Rubin, chairman and CEO of GSI Commerce, an e-commerce giant with multiple leading U.S. retailers, works undercover to see how his employees are doing. He discovers that rushing through a job could result in injury to customers and he also makes the mistake of ordering lunch for his team in the middle of the workday. Other executives who went undercover include Rick L. Arquilla, president and CEO of Roto-Rooter, who found that his company wasn’t delivering on its promise to provide customers with quality plumbing services.

What Happened to the Team?

The series has a host of high-ranking executives going undercover at their companies to see how things really work behind the scenes. This is often done to glean insight into what needs to be improved in the company or how it’s run as a whole. During Graham’s episode, she discovered that her employees are not always as friendly as they appear.

Graham is known as a leader for body positivity and is considered one of the most influential models in the world. She is regularly invited to speak at national conferences, high schools and girls’ groups about body confidence and self-acceptance. She also launched a line of size-conscious lingerie for Dressbarn and secured a partnership with Swimsuits For All to design annual swimwear collections. She is also an active investor in start-ups and has her own bestselling book, A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty and Power Really Look Like.

While on her undercover mission, Graham found that her team is not as friendly as she’d expected and had a few misunderstandings with some of the employees. She was particularly troubled by an employee who refused to wear a bikini top while working and over-served another customer. After the episode, she addressed her concerns with the offending manager in a meeting with the rest of the management team.

Gigi Butler, founder and CEO of Gigi’s Cupcakes, goes undercover to make sure the company has all the right ingredients for success and a sugar crash in the process.

Tim M. Betts, chairman and CEO of Muscle Maker Grill, discovers that he must improve customer service at his restaurant. He also finds that one of his employees is a war veteran who has been struggling to adapt to civilian life, and his other employee has to leave because the physical demands of their job are too much for him.

Who Was the Boss?

Ashley Graham is an accomplished model, body activist and business-savvy entrepreneur. She launched her own line of size-conscious lingerie, is an author of two books, and has appeared in several national campaigns for Lane Bryant. She also speaks nationally to high schools and girls’ groups about self-acceptance, confidence and empowerment. As the first plus-sized model to appear in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, she became a symbol of acceptance and inclusion in the fashion industry.

She is a regular contributor to the New York Times and Glamour, and has been featured on the covers of SELF, Cosmopolitan, and New York magazine. In addition, she has hosted a variety of TV shows and events and appeared in numerous commercials and film projects.

Graham was born in Lincoln, Neb., and began modeling at the age of 12. She was discovered in a mall and signed with an agency one year later. She has appeared in a variety of editorial, catalogue, runway and television projects, and is the face and body of numerous beauty and fashion brands.

In her episode of UNDERCOVER BOSS: CELEBRITY EDITION, which airs Friday, Graham poses as a raven-haired, cheek-pierced aspiring model and seeks out like-minded curvy models. Graham is an accomplished model and body activist who was the first-ever size 14 model to grace a Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover. In her episode of Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition, the Sports Illustrated model went undercover to find aspiring models to mentor. To disguise herself, she donned a completely different look, which included red hair, bangs, and cheek piercings. The transformation took Shelby Michael Patton, the head makeup artist for the show, and her team over three hours to complete. “We wanted to make her look realistic, not over-caricatured,” she told The New York Post.

When she arrived at the open casting call, Graham was unrecognizable to those auditioning. She was reportedly turned away at first, but then the casting director called her back and asked her to join the photo shoot.

The next day, Graham was paired with a model named Heather who had a striking resemblance to her. The two got along very well and became instant friends. Heather had some good advice for Ashley, which was to always believe in herself.

Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition is a spin-off of the popular CBS reality series Undercover Boss. It follows high level executives who go undercover to get their hands dirty and see how smoothly their companies are run.
