No. 2 De La Salle 31, No. 6 El Cerrito 12

On an emotional day for De La Salle after the sudden death of defensive line coach Steve Jacoby, the Spartans scored the first 31 points, which included a scoop-and-score by linebacker/edge rusher Drew Cunningham. DLS improved to 6-2. El Cerrito is 7-1. Darren Sabedra has the full story here.

No. 3 San Ramon Valley 14, No. 7 California 0

Marco Jones ran for a Touchdown, caught a TD, blocked a kick and played linebacker at a high level in SRV’s bounce-back game following an overtime loss to De La Salle. SRV quarterback Luke Baker threw for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Joseph Dycus was in San Ramon and has the full story.

No. 8 McClymonds 64, Skyline 0

Tajir Golden had 282 total yards and four touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving and one on a punt return) in McClymonds’ running-clock victory over Skyline in Oakland Athletic League play. Redmani Albert passed 91 yards and two TD and backup QB Jacob Wasso had nine carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns. John “Sharky” Tamale and Adon Dent each rushed for a TD, and William Puamau had a receiving touchdown. Jimmy Bush and Markus Thomas each intercepted passes, and Troy Hill had 2 1/2 sacks and four tackles for loss. On Friday, McClymonds (4-2, 2-0) will travel to Oakland and Skyline (1-5, 0-2) will visit Fremont-Oakland. — Joseph Dycus

No. 9 Los Gatos 19, Burlingame 6

Los Gatos set up its first-place showdown on the road next week at Wilcox with a workmanlike victory at Burlingame on Thursday in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play. Scott Garwood’s 1-yard run in the opening quarter gave the Wildcats a 6-0 lead. Los Gatos stretched the advantage to 12-0 just before halftime on Boxer Kopcsak-Yeung’s 6-yard run. The margin widened to 19-0 in the third quarter as Jaylen Thomas reeled in a 12-yard scoring pass from Shane Timmons. Eddie Gill’s 12-yard TD pass later in the quarter accounted for Burlingame’s score. Los Gatos improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the league. Burlingame is 3-5, 1-3. Los Gatos travels to Wilcox and Burlingame visits Menlo-Atherton on Friday. – Darren Sabedra

No. 11 St. Francis 24, No. 14 Valley Christian 14

St. Francis safety Mack Mrowka had the key interception as the Lancers defense kept Valley Christian’s offense under control. St. Francis running back Kingston Keanaaina ran for 118 yards and wide receiver Perrion Williams caught a touchdown from Aaron Knapp as the Lancers improved to 4-1 in the West Catholic Athletic League. No. 13 St. Ignatius 38, Sacred Heart Cathedral 14

The Wildcats broke open a close contest by outscoring winless Sacred Heart Cathedral 17-0 in the second half of the annual Bruce-Mahoney game at Kezar Stadium. Cameron Jones and Jarious Hogan combined for almost 200 rushing yards in the win. Hogan had two touchdowns and Jones scored one, a 78-yard run with just over six minutes remaining that made it 38-14. Junior defensive lineman Harrison Luhning had a big game for SI with two tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. St. Ignatius (5-3, 3-2 West Catholic Athletic League) has a pretty good shot to be in Division I for the CCS playoffs, but it’s not a lock with Mitty and Serra still on the schedule. Sacred Heart Cathedral is 0-8, 0-5 but will have a chance to end its losing streak when it plays Bellarmine (1-7) on Friday night at San Jose City College. – Mike Lefkow

No. 15 Amador Valley 48, Granada 0

Amador Valley is closing in on the EBAL Valley Division title after routing Granada. Quarterback Tristan Ti’a, who transferred from Granada, broke a scoreless tie with a 40-yard touchdown run against his old teammates. After Ti’a threw the first of four touchdown passes to Nate Jetter, the rout was on midway through the second quarter. Jetter’s touchdowns went for 10, 63, 3 and 65 yards. Sean Cervantes and Vincent Maiorana each rushed for a TD as Amador led 27-0 at halftime. Pass rusher Keaton Lai and the Dons defense handed Granada its first shutout since 2021. Amador Valley (6-2, 3-0) will visit Dublin on Friday, and Granada (6-3, 2-1) will travel to Livermore on Nov. 3. — Joseph Dycus

No. 20 Liberty 49, Deer Valley 6

Sage Robertson threw four touchdown passes while Ryan McKendry caught two touchdowns and ran for a third as the Lions furthered their case for an NCS division I playoff berth. Liberty (6-2, 3-0 Bay Valley Athletic League) welcomes Pittsburg next Friday in a game that could decide the league championship. Pitt is 8-0, 3-0. Liberty was ahead 28-0 before Deer Valley (3-5, 0-3) finally got on the board with a third-quarter touchdown. The four touchdown passes against Deer Valley gave McKendry 20 on the season. McKendry caught seven balls for 130 yards. He added another 46 yards rushing. Deer Valley lost its third straight after going 3-2 in non-league encounters. – Mike Lefkow

No. 23 Las Lomas 45, No. 12 Campolindo 42

Daniel Downes made a leaping catch over two defenders with less than a minute left as Las Lomas beat Campolindo for the first time since 2010. The Cougars had won 11 in a row against the Knights. The victory for the hoist Knights (8-0, 4-0) puts them in a first-place tie with Acalanes in the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division going into the final two weeks of the regular season. Las Lomas is at home next Friday against Acalanes while Campolindo (5-2-1, 3-1) will host arch-rival Miramonte. The lead changed hands 10 times in the game between the Knights and Campolindo. The Cougars scored first on a 30-yard run by Micah Parker, then Las Lomas tied the game on the first of four touchdown passes by sophomore QB Dylan Thomas. The ball went to Roman Mercado, who had over 200 yards receiving. The Knights went ahead for the first time at 10-7 on a field goal by Daniel Soccol. From that point on, Campolindo would score and Las Lomas would come right back. Five of Campolindo’s six touchdowns came on runs, including two apiece by Parker and Sebastian Antonios-McCrea. Crosby Kelly scored for Campo on a 35-yard run. – Mike Lefkow 

No. 16 Menlo School 34, The King’s Academy 21

Menlo School, playing on the road in Sunnyvale, clinched the PAL De Anza Division championship with a hard-earned victory over The King’s Academy. The teams combined for 49 points in the first half – Menlo led 28-21 – and then the defenses took charge in the second half. Mikey McGrath’s quarterback sneak late in the second quarter accounted for the winning points. Reid Black’s touchdown pass to Joshua Taylor and Black’s two-point conversion for TKA had evened the score 21-21. Willis Johnson’s touchdown run put Menlo on top 21-13. The Knights improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the De Anza. They close out the league schedule on Friday at Half Moon Bay. TKA (4-3, 2-1) plays host to Hillsdale on Friday. – Darren Sabedra

Clayton Valley 39, No. 17 Monte Vista 35

The Ugly Eagles scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter after they entered the period trailing 35-27. Tyson Lovett threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Daven Amos to make it 35-33 with nine minutes left, then he connected with Tony Keck for the go-ahead score seven minutes later. Clayton Valley missed on 2-point conversion attempts after both TDs. The Uglies (4-4, 2-1 East Bay Athletic League Mountain) will visit California next Friday in a contest that could determine who gets a spot in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs. Only eight of the 11 teams in D-I will qualify for the postseason because the NCS insists on determining divisions before the season rather than after. Clayton Valley coach Nick Tisa believes his Eagles and California could be fighting for their playoff lives when they meet. Justin Underwood scored three touchdowns and rushed for 202 yards. Keck had four receptions for 127 yards, including the winning score. Clayton Valley led 19-14 after a wild first quarter and 27-21 at the half. Monte Vista (4-4, 1-2) had two touchdowns in the third quarter to go in front 35-27 but was unable to add on in the fourth period. “We have to learn to finish,” Monte Vista coach Johnny Millard texted. “That’s showed up in three of our losses this year. We will get there.” Monte Vista has to play De La Salle and San Ramon Valley in its final two regular-season contests, so the Mustangs will need help to reach the playoffs. Julian McMahan ran for 156 yards and three scores Friday night, giving him 1,027 yards for the season. QB Brayden Turner threw for 222 yards and two scores. Six of his passes went to Jacob Shehata for 117 yards and a pair of scores. – Mike Lefkow

No. 18 Archbishop Mitty 19, Bellarmine 0

Mitty, playing its one on-campus night home game of the season, got all the points it needed when Jonah Kroenung scored on a short run midway through the opening quarter. The Monarchs led 7-0 at halftime and widened the margin to 13-0 in the third quarter when Caden Allard caught a 34-yard pass from Joey Campagna. Toju Maku returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown in the final quarter to put the score out of reach. Mitty improved to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the WCAL. Bellarmine lost its seventh consecutive game to fall to 1-7, 0-5. Next Friday in San Francisco, Mitty will visit St. Ignatius and Bellarmine will play Sacred Heart Cathedral at Kezar Stadium. Bellarmine and SHC are both winless in WCAL play. — Darren Sabedra

No. 19 Hillsdale 16, Palo Alto 13

A 2-yard touchdown pass from Erick Waugh to Kingston Hua brought Hillsdale from behind and provided the final margin in the PAL De Anza Division matchup. The score was tied 7-7 at halftime. Elliott Regan scored on a 5-yard run for Hillsdale (7-1, 3-1) in the first half. After Palo Alto took a 13-7 lead, Regan made a tackle in the end zone for a safety that brought Hillsdale within 13-9. “We must have had six holding calls,” Hillsdale coach Mike Parodi said. “We did everything in our power to not win that game.” OLB Tripp McCann stood out on defense for Hillsdale, which plays at The King’s Academy on Friday. Palo Alto (3-5, 1-2) plays at Homestead on Friday. — Glenn Reeves

No. 21 Acalanes 42, Miramonte 0

Acalanes’ passing game was unstoppable in the Dons’ rout of previously undefeated Miramonte in Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division play. Sully Bailey threw for 256 yards and four touchdowns, and backup Jake Boselli threw a 65-yard touchdown pass. Cal commit Trevor Rogers caught five passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns, and teammate Niko White had 110 receiving yards and two TD catches. All five of Acalanes’ touchdown passes were over 20 yards. Bailey also ran for 33 yards and one TD. Miramonte coach Jack Schram said the Matadors had a number of drives that ended in the red zone. Miramonte’s Carson Blair passed for 139 yards. On Friday, Acalanes (5-3, 4-0) will travel to Las Lomas in a first-place showdown and Miramonte (6-1, 3-1) will play at Campolindo. — Joseph Dycus

No. 22 Christopher 42, Lincoln-San Jose 0

Christopher cruised to another blowout victory in BVAL Mt. Hamilton league play, its third by double-digits in as many games. Dual-threat quarterback Jaxen Robinson threw two touchdowns on Thursday and ran for another. Receivers Terrence Barnes and Evan Vernon caught Robinson’s 14th and 15th TD passes of the season. Will Rizqalla rushed for two touchdowns, giving him 13 this year, and Ben Quiroz rushed for a TD, too. On Friday, Christopher (8-0, 3-0) will play at Leland, and Lincoln (3-5, 0-3) will travel to Santa Teresa. — Joseph Dycus

No. 25 Antioch 44, Freedom 0

Antioch bounced back from a one-point loss to Liberty with a rout of Freedom in Bay Valley Athletic League play. Larenzo Mayfield accounted for six TDs, three rushing and three passing, in Antioch’s third straight victory by at least 30 points over Freedom. Angel Buezo and Kha’mahri Jones each had one TD catch. Junior running back Curtis Tucker ran for a touchdown and caught one of Mayfield’s TDs. On Friday, Antioch (6-2, 2-1) will play host to Deer Valley and Freedom (1-7) will travel to Heritage. — Joseph Dycus

East Bay

Alhambra 65, Ygnacio Valley 0

Alhambra clinched the Diablo Athletic League Valley Division title with a victory over league opponent Ygnacio Valley. Versatile quarterback Beau Blau threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more in the first quarter, and he ended the half with three rushing and three passing TDs. Mason Jones, Logan Thompson and Louie Lakeman each caught one TD. Elias Aleman ran for two touchdowns. On Friday, Alhambra (7-1, 4-0) takes a trip to Northgate, while Ygnacio Valley will attempt to avoid a third consecutive 0-10 season when it plays host to Berean Christian. – Joseph Dycus

Livermore 45, Dublin 34

Kamarri Robinson rushed for 534 yards and five touchdowns in 29 carries as the host Cowboys defeated Dublin in EBAL Valley Division play. Robinson’s rushing total ranks fifth all-time in state history, according to records kept by Cal-Hi Sports. Mike Lefkow has more details here.

Moreau Catholic 35, San Leandro 0

Moreau bounced back from a tough loss to Bishop O’Dowd with a dominant victory on the road over San Leandro in MVAL/WACC Foothill Division play. Jayden Bryant ran for 200 yards and three touchdowns in 24 carries and Jeremiah Charles threw for 79 yards and two TDs to lead the Mariners. Moreau also got four receptions for 59 yards and a TD from Jalen Arnold and a 13-yard scoring catch from Lance Mitchell, who had a fumble recovery, too. Seth Evans and Arnold intercepted passes and Mickael White had a sack. Moreau improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the league. San Leandro is 1-7, 0-3. Moreau visits Tennyson and San Leandro plays host to Castro Valley on Friday. – Darren Sabedra

Piedmont 35, Kennedy-Fremont 29

Piedmont, with around 20 players on its varsity roster, entered into a three-way tie for first place in the MVAL/WACC Shoreline Division after it defeated league opponent Kennedy-Fremont. Highlanders WR Sam Shelby, who entered the game with 900 yards from scrimmage and 12 total TDs, had over 200 rushing yards and also had 100 yards receiving against Kennedy. Shelby scored three rushing TDs and also caught a 60-yard pass from Markos Lagios. The junior dual-threat also ran for his ninth touchdown of the season. On Friday, Piedmont (5-3, 3-1) will travel to American and Kennedy will play at Alameda. – Joseph Dycus

South Bay/Peninsula

Aragon 42, Terra Nova 13

Ivan Nisa rushed for close to 200 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a 97-yard run early in the third quarter that broke the game open for Aragon. Eric Laguna scored on a 9-yard pass from Sean Hickey. Spencer Unga, Amaziah Tanielu and Pau’uvale Hokafonu added rushing touchdowns as Aragon improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAL Ocean Division. Its game at home with Capuchino next Friday should decide the division title. Terra Nova (3-5, 0-4) plays at Milpitas on Friday. – Glenn Reeves

Branham 52, Independence 38

Jack Lewis threw for three touchdowns and Elias Antillion ran for two to lead Branham. Trailing 17-7 after one quarter, Branham scored 18 in the second quarter to take a 25-17 lead at halftime. Lewis completed 17 of 27 passes for 156 yards and TDs to Antillion, Miles Scott and Sebastian Golden. Antillion carried 18 times for 197 yards and also caught seven passes for another 76 yards. With the win, Branham (6-2, 3-0) remains tied for first place in the BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill Division with Silver Creek. The Bruins play at Silver Creek on Friday. Independence (4-4, 2-1) plays at Piedmont Hills on Friday. — Glenn Reeves

Fremont-Sunnyvale 31, Santa Clara 24

Trailing 24-10 after three quarters, Fremont staged a dramatic rally on its home field to keep its PAL El Camino Division championship hopes alive. After pulling to within 24-17, Fremont appeared doomed when Santa Clara lined up for a short field goal attempt with three minutes left that would have stretched the advantage to 10. But Finely Ireland blocked the kick and Don Martinez returned the ball 87 yards for a score to make it 24-24. Martinez then intercepted a pass that set up Fremont’s winning eight-play, 60-yard touchdown drive. Henry Buenrostro’s 1-yard touchdown run with 14 seconds left gave Fremont the victory. Martinez finished with two interceptions – one in each half. Running back Jordan McKinney ran for 120 yards in eight carries, and Buenrostro finished with 56 yards rushing and two TDs. Fremont improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Firebirds travel to Carlmont on Friday. Santa Clara (2-6, 1-3) plays host to El Camino on Saturday. – Darren Sabedra

Leigh 23, Overfelt 14

Leigh quarterback Tyler Donaldson threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game with an injury. Running back Shayan Shariat took over at QB and ran for the score that sealed Leigh’s victory in BVAL Santa Teresa-Valley play. Glenn Reeves has the full story from San Jose here.

Live Oak 35, Santa Teresa 0

Josh Gagni rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Acorns. Luke Newell completed 11 of 14 passes for 116 yards and another two touchdowns, one to Christian Hauge and the other to Robbie Rael. Zach Rocha’s fumble recovery in the end zone accounted for a fifth touchdown. Live Oak coach Mike Gemo said the defensive shutout was a group effort. “A quality 11-man defensive effort,”. Gemo said. “Everyone flying to the ball.” Live Oak (7-0, 3-0 BVAL NMt. Hamilton Division) plays at Oak Grove on Thursday. Santa Teresa (3-5, 1-2) hosts Lincoln on Friday. – Glenn Reeves 

Menlo-Atherton 33, Mountain View 14

The Bears outscored Mountain View 26-0 in the second half on Thursday, pretty much assuring themselves a spot in one of the Central Coast Section’s five playoff divisions.  Menlo-Atherton (3-5, 1-2) still has PAL Bay contests against Burlingame and Los Gatos, but even if it loses both, it can do no worse than finish in a tie with Mountain View (3-5, 0-4). The Spartans will likely need an at-large berth with their only league game left at Sacred Heart Prep next Saturday. Jordan Masuisui, a 5-10, 265-pound RB/DE, bulled his way to 212 yards and three touchdowns for Menlo-Atherton. Sophomore QB Teddy Dacey, making his first varsity start, threw for 164 yards and a touchdown. Angelo Marin caught seven passes. – Mike Lefkow

Sequoia 24, Capuchino 21

Sequoia built a 17-0 lead and held on to hand Capuchino its first loss of the season. TJ Talisa scored on a 6-yard run and Logan Kern on a 2-yard run. Angelo Garcia recovered a fumble in the end zone after it slipped out of the Capuchino quarterback’s hand and Brody McKenna kicked a 27-yard field goal to account for Sequoia’s scoring. Head coach Rob Poulos commended the play of Ryan Mendez, making his first start at safety, linebacker Mario Garcia and lineman Tony Veimau. Sequoia (3-5, 2-2 PAL Ocean) hosts San Mateo on Friday. Capuchino (7-1, 3-1) plays at first-place Aragon on Thursday. — Glenn Reeves

Silver Creek 28, Gilroy 7

Silver Creek rushed for 205 yards against Gilroy in a BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill matchup on Thursday. Running back Gabriel Lim paced the Raiders with 94 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Alonzo Hernandez, a 215-pound bruiser, ran for 44 yards and a touchdown to complement Lim in the ground game. Defensive back Austin Price returned an interception for a touchdown, and Kyler Headley, Mathias McClain and Aiden Dunbar each had a sack for Silver Creek. On Friday, the Raiders (6-2, 3-0) will play host to Branham and Gilroy (0-8, -03) will stay home for a game against Pioneer. — Joseph Dycus

Sobrato 14, Willow Glen 11

Noah Taylor rushed for around 240 yards, went over the 2,000-yard mark for the season, and scored both Sobrato touchdowns. His 9-yard reception on a pass from sophomore QB Braydon Huighes erased an 11-7 deficit and provided the winning margin. He also scored a rushing touchdown early in the game that gave Sobrato a 7-0 lead. Willow Glen responded with a 5-yard scoring run by QB Cedeno Chavez, who then threw to Richard Pimentel for a two-point conversion and an 8-7 lead. A 38-yard field goal by Chavez made it 11-7. Joe Dumas forced a fumble that Chris Amann recovered, Haas Perry made an interception and Wyatt Walker had a sack and a forced fumble for the Rams. “We put the ball on the ground but our defense held tough,” said Sobrato coach Jacob Rueda, who singled out the play of Taylor at inside linebacker and Luke Anderson on the defensive front. Sobrato (5-3, 2-1 BVAL Santa Teresa-Valley Division) hosts Leigh on Saturday. Willow Glen (4-3, 1-2) is at Westmont on Friday. — Glenn Reeves

South San Francisco 25, Cupertino 6

In a showdown for first place in the PAL Lake Division, South San Francisco won on the road as Elijah Fields ran for two touchdowns to lead the way. South San Francisco led 12-6 at halftime and put the margin out of reach with 13 points in the third period. The Warriors improved to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the league. Cupertino fell to 5-3, 4-1. The Pioneers are tied for second place with Mills. South City plays host to Monta Vista on Friday. Cupertino will be at home on Saturday to face Mills. – Darren Sabedra

Westmont 34, Mt. Pleasant 13

Mason Pound threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Westmont to the BVAL Santa Teresa-Valley Division victory. Pound connected with Mason Price on two scoring passes of 45 and 16 yards. Cole Treleaven was on the receiving end of a 14-yard TD pass. Pound ran for a 15-yard touchdown and Spencer Hoang scored on a 2-yard run. Apollo Braddock scored on a 6-yard run and Felix Enow returned a fumble 39 yards on another scoring play for Mt. Pleasant. Westmont (4-3, 1-1) hosts Willow Glen on Friday. Mt. Pleasant (3-5, 0-3) plays at Overfelt on Thursday. – Glenn Reeves
