An ambulance took the 25-year-old to a hospital with what police called minor injuries. Lt. Walter O’Grodnick in a statement said the man would be booked on multiple felony counts when he’s released from the hospital.
Nobody at the cellular store in the 3100 block of Balfour Road was injured physically. The robbery happened at about 10:15 a.m., when the man walked into the store armed with a handgun, O’Grodnick said. The man then took several cellular items and left in a vehicle, O’Grodnick said.
Officers located the vehicle a short time after the robbery at an undisclosed location in Oakley. O’Grodnick said the man then took off, and a pursuit at “a high rate of speed” through Oakley and Antioch ensued. O’Grodnick did not say where the pursuit in those cities took place.
According to O’Grodnick, the man’s vehicle became disabled and crashed on eastbound Highway 4 near Highway 160. The suspect ran from the crash scene before officers caught him, O’Grodnick said.
Police recovered a gun, as well as property stolen from the cellular store.
