The man entered a store on the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street on Sept. 19 and assaulted the business’s lone employee on shift, according to authorities. Though officers arrived after the man fled, investigators retrieved evidence that led to his identification, police said.

Arrest and search warrants were subsequently obtained by police, who arrested the man the next day in San Jose on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a felony, kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, attempted robbery, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, battery causing great bodily injury and false imprisonment.

Authorities did not release specific information about the nature of the employee’s injuries.
