Depite reports that Melania Trump would stand by her man, the former first lady did not accompany Donald Trump on his Monday flight to New York City, where he will be booked and arraigned Tuesday on criminal charges related to his alleged affair with Stormy Daniels and the money paid in 2016 to buy the porn star’s silence.

Melania Trump was not seen in Trump’s entourage as it left his Mar-a-Lago Resort in Palm Beach, Florida, and headed to the airport to catch a flight on “Trump Force One.”

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted that Trump was joined by his second son, Eric Trump, along with a host of campaign aides, including campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung, longtime communications aide Jason Miller, former White House aide Dan Scavino and Boris Epshteyn, who was on the team of lawyers who helped Trump mount a spurious legal effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Supporters greeted his motorcade as it swept out of the gates, The Daily Mail said.

Eric Trump is also on the plane traveling up to NYC.

Trump Force One departed Florida and landed at La Guardia Airport at about 3:30 p.m. local time, the Daily Mail said. Trump’s motorcade headed into Manhattan and to his apartment in Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. There, he was greeted by another group of supporters, the New York Times said, with Trump waving to them as he walked alone inside the building, flanked only by someone who appeared to be a Secret Service agent.

Trump, the first American president to be indicted, is expected to stay overnight at Trump Tower before heading to Lower Manhattan on Tuesday to surrender at the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg. He will be arraigned in the Manhattan Criminal Courts Building, the New York Times said. The formalities include Trump being fingerprinted and possibly having his photo taken.

Trump reportedly will be charged with multiple counts related to the payment made in the run-up to the 2016 election to stop Daniels from selling her story about her encounter with Trump to a tabloid. Daniels said she had a brief sexual relationship with Trump at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe in 2006, four months after Melania Trump gave birth to their son. Trump denies the affair.

It’s likely that the privacy-conscious Melania Trump didn’t fly with Trump to New York because she wanted to avoid the spectacle. The New York Times reported that Trump’s every move during this whirlwind trip to New York will be watched by the national media.

Last week, Melania Trump joined Trump in putting on a show of “happiness” and solidarity for their guests at Mar-a-Lago, after news came that a grand jury had indicted the 45th president.

But it’s hard to know how Melania Trump was really feeling as she appeared at the dinner by her husband’s side. A political source told People that Melania and Donald Trump were “shocked” upon hearing news of the indictment, believing that it was weeks away or wouldn’t happen at all.

With the Stormy Daniels connection to the case, Trump’s third wife also is upset and angry about the indictment — but not devastated, People also reported.

“Melania and Donald were both shocked when they were told,” a political source told People. “They weren’t expecting it, but Melania will support him. That’s what she does. They are a family.”

Page Six suggested last week that Melania Trump’s support for her husband’s legal woes might be grudging, given that she’s mostly worried about the welfare of their 17-year-old son Barron.

“She wants to be away from it. She wants to protect (their son) Barron,” a source told Page Six.

Page Six and People also said that Melania, who has separate quarters from her husband at Mar-a-Lago, has tried to avoid talk about Daniels or hush money payments. More than anything, she would like to continue leading her own life there, “surrounded by people who love her and who never talk about reality, or bad things about her husband,” a source told People.
