Here is your chance, if you missed Wednesday night’s dramatic sunset in the Bay Area. Our photo staff captured some amazing photos, as the sun shined through the clouds to end the day. We also captured a gorgeous rainbow in Hollister.
The weather finally calmed down Wednesday evening, after the most recent atmospheric river storm brought along a destructive “bomb cyclone” that touched down in the Bay and killed at least three people on Tuesday, as high winds knocked down trees.
The cold storm split into two swirling low-pressure zones next to each other. The rare phenomenon is known as the Fujiwhara Effect, for Sakuhei Fujiwhara, a Japanese meteorologist who discovered it in 1921. Read more about the weather event here.
