Liver Transplant

Liver transplantation is a replacement of diseased liver in a patient with end stage liver failure with a healthy organ. Both adults & children can undergo liver transplantation. Hepatitis related liver cirrhosis, acute liver failures & even those complicated by unresectable liver tumors can be effectively treated by liver transplantation. Living donor liver transplantation is a safe option with high success rates & is absolutely safe for the donors. Particularly for sick patients where waiting can be perilous, we strongly recommend living donor liver transplantation.

Pancreas, small bowel and multi-visceral transplantation

Pancreas transplantation is for people with difficult to control diabetes who also have renal failure. It is aimed to cure’ diabetes and in the long run it will protect the transplanted kidney from being affected by diabetes and even reverse neuropathy and prolong their life.

Small bowel transplantation is for people with intestinal failure from either surgical cause or medical cause. This patient population, if not treated appropriately, will additionally develop liver and or kidney failure. They may need combination of liver, small intestine and kidney transplantation (multi-visceral transplantation). Apollo is the first one to perform complex multi-visceral transplantation on liver, pancreas & small bowel. We have a successful on-going cadaver organ ransplantation program which make these type of complex operations possible. We have the doctors and the technology available to optimize their care in all aspects.

Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgery

Acute Liver Failure service

A dedicated team of liver intensive care specialists & Hepatologists at the Centre for Liver Disease and Transplantation offer medical & intensive care for patients with ‘Acute/Fulminant liver failure’ as well as patients with liver disease who suffer from life threatening complications of liver failure. This service offers the highest rate of salvage for patients with liver failure via either effective medical treatment, MARS (as) and when needed) & timely liver transplantation.

Medical Hepatology

At the Centre for Liver Diseases, our medical hepatologists treat hepatitis C, hepatitis B and various forms of liver disease as well as acute liver failure. They provide acute care for GI bleeds, severely sick patients in liver failure as well as optimize care of patients awaiting liver transplantation to improve their quality of life and survival post transplant.
