Does Honeybee Health Take Insurance?

Health online Pharmacy Honeybee Health sells generic prescription drugs and vitamins without the requirement for insurance and lets clients pick their favorite generic manufacturer.

You may save up to 80% by purchasing generic medications directly from FDA-approved, U.S.-based wholesalers without dealing with insurance companies or pharmacy benefit managers.

A group of pharmacists came up with the idea after becoming tired of seeing their patients unable to pay for their prescriptions due to excessive copays or the fact that they didn’t have insurance at all.

Do you want to give us a try? A genuine Rx prescription may be purchased online at HoneybeeHealth.com, where you can also make a direct payment.

Sending medicine to you is the next step, and there will be no more missed refills, pre-authorizations, or long waits at the pharmacy.

There are 44 states and territories where Honeybee Health is accessible right now. Visit HoneybeeHealth.com for the whole list.

Our Story

While growing up in our native state of California, we had a tiny, family-owned drugstore. We were familiar with every one of our patients—their names, birthdays, children, and pets.

Despite our efforts, several customers departed the pharmacy, unable to purchase their prescriptions because of hefty copays. Some were able to get their medication at the expense of other necessities for their families.

There was no way, as pharmacists, that we could do nothing. That’s when we decided to start Honeybee, a pharmacy that doesn’t need customers to have insurance.

Without it, prescription costs may be much cheaper. Rather than being enslaved by confusing insurance policies and ever-increasing deductibles, we want our patients to feel like they are in control of their health care.

Honeybee has earned us the enmity of insurance firms, big pharma, and other industry intermediaries. Good! That’s what we desire. There is no doubt in my mind that we’re on the right track.

No one will ever have to pick between food and medication because we won’t stop until we achieve that goal.

Honeybee Health revenue

Honeybee Health Inc., a Culver City-based online pharmacy startup, is one of several startups that have joined the market in recent years.

From only $27,000 in revenues in 2018 to $5 million by 2020, Honeybee Health’s three-year growth rate of 19,159 percent was the most considerable three-year growth rate of any firm on the annual Fastest Growing Private Companies list.

Even in 2021, Honeybee Health’s fast expansion is expected to continue: More than three times as much income is expected this year as last, says the company’s co-founder and CEO, Jessica Nouhavandi.

In the Business Journal, Nouhavandi claimed that Honeybee Health’s rapid development was due to its concentration on low-cost, generic pharmaceuticals and the fact that the company is a pharmacy that can fill prescriptions.

According to Nouhavandi, “Honeybee launched three years ago as an internet pharmacy providing generic medications without the necessity of insurance.”

“We exclusively purchase drugs from wholesalers who have been authorized by the (Food and Drug Administration).” As a result, we can sell prescriptions at prices up to 80% lower than those charged by regular pharmacies.”

Honeybee Health co-founders Nouhavandi and Peter Wang were running an independent pharmacy in Moorpark, Ventura County when they came up with the concept for the company.

She says that there were significant variations in what people paid for the same prescription based on their insurance. “We immediately discovered that,” she says.

As far as I knew, there was no reliable source for determining the exact cost. We were sorry for what had occurred when everything was said and done.”

The success of Santa Monica-based GoodRx Holdings Inc., which pioneered the notion of shopping around for the lowest price on a prescription, was also a significant influence on the duo.

Nouhavandi and Wang launched online pharmacies after they sold their independent pharmacy in 2017 for between $500,000 and $1 million.

The two decided to concentrate on generic drugs to provide their patients with additional alternatives for the finest manufacturer.

There are always little changes, such as different fillers, chemicals, or colors used by other generic medicine producers, according to Nouhavandi.

Patients without health insurance are the ones who stand to gain the most from the steep discounts on medications.

Honeybee’s timing on this was critical since the pandemic in spring 2020 resulted in the loss of employment and employer-sponsored health insurance for millions of Americans.

According to Geoffrey Joyce, director of health policy at the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics, Honeybee Health has been pushing into a saturated market.

“GoodRx was one of the first to provide reduced costs on generic medicines and many other companies have followed,” he said in an interview. “Amazon is another.”

However, unlike most other online pharmacy companies, Nouhavandi and Wang intended to run their online pharmacy and not only function as middlemen, pairing consumers with pharmacies that provide the most significant discounts.

To conduct business in every state, they had to get pharmacist licenses, which added nearly a year to the start date.

Many states and U.S. territories have adopted Honeybee Health as their primary health care products and services provider.

Honeybee Health’s integration with electronic medical records has been the primary emphasis this year, according to Nouhavandi.

According to Nouhavandi: “A lot of instances, we come in when the patient informs his or her doctor that they have stopped taking their drugs due to the cost.”

When Honeybee tries to sustain its development, Joyce warns, it will meet a big obstacle.
“There are so many other major companies in this sector,” he continued, “that scaling up will be tough for them.”

FAQs

Do you accept insurance?

We do not take insurance; however, if you use our pharmacy, you will almost certainly save money. Here’s why:
Paying extra for generic medications sometimes means paying more because of the higher copay and deductible.

Generic medicines are sold at a lesser price than their brand-name counterparts, and the savings are passed on to you.

Type in the name of your prescription at honeybeehealth.com, and we’ll show you the price right now.

How much does it cost?

There is no additional fee to utilize Honeybee as a pharmacy.

Only the cost of your prescriptions will be charged to your account. Enter your medication’s name at www.honeybeehealth.com, and we’ll show you how much you’ll pay immediately.

In addition, we provide free delivery on all purchases, so you won’t have to stand in line at the pharmacy anymore!

Why is Honeybee less expensive than the drugstore I usually go to?

You may not believe it, but it’s happening. Because insurance companies do not control our rates, we can provide most drugs at a reduced cost.

Whenever feasible, we also exclusively employ generic versions of drugs.

We don’t believe in jacking up the price of generic pharmaceuticals as most insurance companies and plan administrators do.

Our low overhead allows us to provide free delivery on all purchases through USPS in unmarked packaging, unlike typical pharmacies. This is a win-win situation.

We are just like any other US-based accredited online pharmacy. Our generic drugs come from the same FDA-approved manufacturers and distributors, so we follow the same regulations.

All of the medications we offer have been approved by the FDA, so you can rest easy knowing they are safe to use. You may learn more about us here if you’re still unclear about what we do.

Do you provide access to Insulin or any other chilled medications?

Insulin is still a brand-only product, and it is pretty costly. So far, we haven’t been able to get our consumers better deals, but we’re working on it!

If our prices drop in the future, we’ll let you know right away. By just sending us a simple email, we’ll add your email address to our list of people who want to save money on Insulin.

Because USPS does not guarantee the delivery of refrigerated pharmaceuticals, we do not offer them.

Is there a brand-name drug that you carry?

As a result of the high cost of brand-name pharmaceuticals, we do not now carry many of them. We have only a few well-known brands, such as Eliquis and Armour Thyroid, available.

Whenever possible, we attempt to lower the prices for our clients, so if you have a particular drug in mind, please let us know in a message so that we can alert you when we’ve found a lower price.
