Assisted Hatching In IVF

Does Assisted Hatching Increase Chances of Pregnancy?

One’s embryos will make in the IVF cycle. This embryo is covered by an outer layer called zona pellucida. We can compare this with a shell of an egg, as we can make a hole in the shell with the help of a laser. It helps embryos to hatch out, and these hatch-out embryos have better implantation weight in certain indicated cases like advanced maternal age, repeated IVF failures, or frozen embryo transfer. At the same time, it increases the chances of monochronic twining. Still, for indicated cases, we can go with LAH (Laser-Assisted Hatching) helps increase the chances of embryo implantation.

What is Assisted Hatching?

Assisted hatching is an extra procedure that can be performed, which is a fertility technique, to enhance the hatching and implantation process.

The fertility eggs are developed into embryos for patients undergoing in vitro fertilization IVF.

Once embryos make it into the IVF cycle, this embryo is covered by an outer layer called zona pellucida. As the embryo matures, it spontaneously emerges from this shell.  we can compare this with a shell of an egg, as we can make a hole in the shell with the help of a laser. It helps embryos to hatch out. With the hatch-out, embryos are placed into the woman’s body. The expectation is that aided hatching will aid in the embryo’s growth, uterine wall implantation, and eventual pregnancy.

Candidates for Assisted Hatching

The following are the most popular indications for assisted hatching in an in vitro fertilisation (IVF) case:

Age factor – women who are older than 37 are capable.

Egg quantity and quality factor – cases in which a woman’s phase 3 follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level is high, or she has a low AMH level or antral follicle count.

Embryo quality factor – developed embryos don’t are of good quality.

Zona factor-embryos are covered with the outer shell, which is zona pellucida, usually thick.

Previous IVF failure situations in which one or more previous IVF rounds have failed.

IVF Assisted Hatching Methods

Assisted hatching can be done in three methods

  1. Lasers Assisted Hatching
  2. Acid Tyrode Assisted Hatching
  3. Partial Zona Dissection (PZD)

1. Lasers Assisted Hatching.

A scientific IVF procedure called laser-assisted hatching can facilitate the embryo’s “hatching,” or breaking through its outer layer or “shell,” a membrane is known as the zona pellucida. This layer can occasionally become abnormally thick and rigid due to the freezing and thawing process, among other things. The embryo’s chances of adhering to or implanting into the uterine wall are improved by how easily it hatches.

The embryo must hatch and implant for pregnancy to occur, and laser-assisted hatching can play a significant role in attaining these essential processes.

2. Acid Tyrode-Assisted Hatching.

A micromanipulation Acid Tyrode technique called assisted hatching is used to assist embryos in “erupting” from their zona pellucida “shell” and implanting into the endometrium.

The process of assisted hatching doesn’t harm the embryo. The embryologist carefully cuts a small hole in the zona pellucida once the embryos are developed and prepared for transfer. Acid Tyrode’s solution is used to create this opening.

3. Partial Zona Dissection (PZD)

A buildup of proteins that can be tougher in certain women is the shell. Egg freezing can also cause the shell to harden. Women with eggs with a hard or difficult-to-penetrate shell are advised to have a partial zona dissection.

The efficiency of assisted hatching is a matter of debate, and not all organisations use it. It is frequently employed in older females, those who have had unsuccessful IVF treatments in the past, and when there are poor embryo quality issues or unusually thickened zona pellucida.

Conclusion

According to clinical trials, assisted hatching enhances the possibility that transferred embryos will implant. Even though there hasn’t been enough study to prove that laser-assisted hatching is superior to other techniques, aspire thinks it’s the greatest choice for our patients.
