Don’t Practice What You Don’t Want to Become

Whether we realise it or not we are working towards goals. We can consciously be doing it, so our goals are then usually helpful and healthy. Or we can be unconsciously doing it so our goals are then likely to be unhelpful or unhealthy. Whether we realise it or not we are cultivating habits. We can consciously be doing it, so our habits are then usually helpful and healthy. Or we can be unconsciously doing it so our habits are then likely to be unhelpful or unhealthy. If our conscious goal is to feel better, we will work towards feeling better. If we do not have that conscious goal we will be working towards not feeling better sub/unconsciously. If our conscious goal is to look after our mental and physical health more, we will work towards looking after our physical and mental health more. If we do not have that conscious goal we will be working towards not looking after our physical and mental health more sub/unconsciously. Not having goals and habits doesn’t mean we don’t goals and habits, it means we just don’t have conscious ones. Whether we realise it or not we are always practicing. We can consciously be doing it, so our practice is usually helpful and healthy. Or we can be unconsciously doing it so our practice is likely to be unhelpful or unhealthy. Don’t practice what you don’t want to become.
