High Calorie Doesn’t Mean Unhealthy Just Like Low Calorie Doesn’t Mean Healthy

Calorie management is how we manage our weight. When we eat in a calorie surplus we will gain weight (either/or muscle and/or bodyfat, depending on our protein intake and exercise type). When we eat in a calorie deficit we will lose weight (either/or muscle and/or bodyfat, depending on our protein intake and exercise type). When we eat at calorie maintenance our weight is maintained though our body composition may change depending on our protein intake and exercise type. High calorie foods can be healthy (avocado, oils etc). Low calorie foods can be less healthy (some processed foods). The nutritional contribution from the food is the more important part. Understanding our BMR (base metabolic rate) to give us a calorie budget and eating sufficient protein within that budget is key for weight gain, loss and maintenance. Calorie content and counting is what unlocks our goals for us. High calorie doesn’t mean unhealthy and low calorie doesn’t mean healthy.
