 Types of Acne

Acne can take several forms. They include:

  1.  Blackheads: Small black or yellowish bumps that develop on the skin; they’re not filled with dirt, but are black because the inner lining of the hair follicle produces pigmentation.
  2. Whiteheads: Whiteheads occur when a pore becomes clogged with a mix of dead skin cells and sebum.
  3. Papules: Papules occur when excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria become trapped deeper into the skin and trigger inflammation.
  4. Pustules: Pustules are larger, tender bumps with a defined circular center filled with whitish or yellowish pus.
  5. Fungal acne: This type occurs when an excess of yeast develops in the hair follicles. They can become itchy and inflamed.
  6. Nodules: Nodules are a more severe form of acne that can be hard to address. They appear similar to papules but start deeper within the layers of your skin.
  7. Cysts: Pus-filled pimples. These can cause scars.
Fact - Hormonal acne is acne that affects adults between ages 20 and 40. It is caused when hormones cause an excess of sebum in oil glands.

 What causes acne?

Acne occurs when Skin pores become blocked with oil, dead skin, or bacteria. During puberty, hormones called androgens increase the size of the skin’s oil glands. These glands start making more oil, which can clog pores.

 Certain things can cause acne

  • Hormonal changes that make the skin oilier. These may be related to puberty, menstrual periods, pregnancy, birth control pills, genetically derived, or stress.
  • Heavy sweating and humidity.
  • Stress, which increases the hormone cortisol, can also cause acne to flare.
  • Some medications.
  • Wrong, unsuitable & chemical based skin care products
Fact - Using a product not suitable for your skin type can cause many skin concerns like acne pimples, rash, irritation, redness, patches, scars & spots, dryness, eczema etc.

What are blind pimples?

A blind pimple is a pimple that forms under your skin. You can feel the bump beneath the skin however the surface of the skin stays clear. Blind pimples are triggered by hormones, so they’re often more likely to appear during hormonal fluctuations.

How do I know if my acne is hormonal or bacterial?

Hormonal acne outbreaks majorly tend to happen in the T-zone — an area of your face that covers your nose, chin and forehead. And since acnes are contagious, they have the tendency to spread from nose, chin to cheeks and other facial skin.

What does stress acne look like?

Stress causes acne indirectly meaning a body prone to hormonal disorders or acne pimples tend to get breakouts more during stressed times.
