Our Skin In Ayurveda

Ayurveda has done a great research on Skin and its formation.

According to ayurveda there are 7 layers of skin and these layers are arranged in stack (one above another) such that each Layer is supported by the layer below it, healthy functioning of these layers is very important for the normal functioning of skin.

these 7 layers are

  1. Avabhasini
  2. Lohita
  3. Shweta
  4. Tamra
  5. Vedini
  6. Rohini
  7. Mamsadhara

1) Avabhasini

The outermost layer of the skin is called avbhashini, complexion of our skin is due to this layer. this layer shows overall health of our skin if there is any disorder in our skin then this layer can show it.

Massage with good oil and regular hydration is very necessary for the overall health of this layer.

2) Lohita

This layer looks like a Melton Iron, this is the second most layer of the skin and supports the uppermost layer of the skin.

3) Shweta

This layer is white in color, it helps in improving the dark color of other layers.

4) Tamra

This Layer norishes layers above it. It is copper in color and it also supports the immune system of our body.

5) Vedini

Our body recognize sensation, feeling and pain due to this layer. this layer linked itself with whole of the body.

6) Rohini

Regeneration of skin cells is due to the Rohini layer this layer disappears the scars from skin. healthy and nutritional diet is very necessary to improve overall health of Rohini layer.

7) Mamsadhara

This is the innermost layer of the skin. it is directly related to the ageing process of our body. people having healthy mamsadhara layer always looks young Shiny and beautiful.

In Ayurveda, Herbs are combined to improve the overall health of each layer of the skin.

In Ayurveda first we decide the type of skin to find treatment of skin diseases.

Types of skin in ayurveda

In ayurveda treatment is decided according to the type of skin, so it is very important to know about type of skin.

According to ayurveda there are 3 types of skin these are:

  1. Vata skin
  2. Pitta skin
  3. Kapha skin

1) Vata skin

this type of skin is darker and rough and having nature to dry and is cold to the touch.  Thin outer layer cause wrinkles and aging . Incompatible food (like cold ,dry , ,),water ,oil over physical activity , over mantel activity, stress and lake of rest can aggravate aging wrinkles and dryness of skin immediately .
people having this type of skin are likely to develop eczema when they are in stress

2) Pitta skin

Pitta skin color and nature is exactly opposite to the vata skin. this type of skin is fair in color and is soft in touch. This type of skin having tendency to redness and become spotted . Can effected by sun and burn easily. Can be sensitive  or oily and pron to acne and inflammation.

Incompatible  food (like hot sore , spicy, oily) stress and chemical can agitate skin nature .This type of skin having tendency of blemishes, acne and redness of skin 

3) Kapha skin

Kapha type of skin are oily smooth thick pale in nature, they have enlarged pores and have a tendency to get blackheads.

Incompatible food (like cold ,sweet ,oily ,diary product ) lazy and luxurious lifestyle can agitate skin type .

HOW TO INCREASE QUALITY OF SKIN

quality of skin can be increased by making positive changes to the life. all activities to improve overall health of skin should be decided according to the type of skin

Diet according to skin type

One should select his/her diet according to the type of skin. so that diet can improve quality of skin.

quality and consumption of food should be decided according to the type of skin you have

Diet for Vata skin

People having vata skin should eat avocados, sweet fruits, cherries and oranges. and should not take apples, melons, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, beef and peas.

Diet for Pitta skin

People having pitta skin should eat aprouts, green salads, sunflower seeds, mangos, pears, plums and mushrooms. and should not take tomatoes, garlic, sour fruits, bananas, peanuts and spicy foods.

Diet for Kapha skin

People having kapha skin should not take coconut, dates, pineapples and dairy products. Eat dried fruits, pomegranate, cranberries and basmati rice.

Exercise according to skin type

Exercise for Vata skin: head stands, backward bends, plows, cobra, locust and lotus poses
Exercise for Pitta skin: shoulder stands, half wheel, hidden lotus and fish poses
Exercise for Kapha skin: boat, lion, palm tree, half wheel and spinal twist poses

Skin care according to skin type

Skin care for Vata skin:

People having vata skin should not use extreme cool and hot products on skin as these products can decrease the moisture of skin. This type of skin can get benefit from stream, steam can also open pours and increase blood cirulation. gentle messaging with aloevera is helpful in getting moisture for this skin type.

Skin care for Pitta skin:

Gentle messaging with coconut oil is helpful in getting moisture for this skin type. This type of skin can be cleaned using rose water, apply rose water with cotton and leave for 5 to 10 minutes and then wash with fresh water.

Skin care for Kapha skin:

Gentle messaging with honey scrub is helpful in getting moisture for this skin type. People having kapha skin should avoid milk and dairy products for better health of skin.
