Isro’s LVM-3 successfully places 36 OneWeb satellites in orbit
The largest rocket of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the LVM3-M3 Mission, launched 36 OneWeb satellites into a 450-kilometer circular orbit on Sunday, March 26. The launch, also known as the OneWeb India-2 Mission, marked the third in the current year and the 18th overall for the London-based communications company OneWeb.
This is OneWeb’s second mission in accordance with a business agreement with ISRO and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of the Indian space agency. The first collaboration between OneWeb, ISRO, and NSIL resulted in the OneWeb India-1 mission, which launched 36 satellites into low-Earth orbit on October 23, 2022.

The satellites have been placed in a low-Earth orbit with a diameter of 450 kilometers and an inclination of 87.4 degrees. The GSLV-Mark III, also known as LVM3, made its sixth flight on the OneWeb India-2 Mission (Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle Mark III).
The satellites were launched from Sriharikota’s second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
LVM3 has launched five satellites totaling 5,805 kilograms. The launch vehicle is 43.5 meters tall and has a 643-ton launch mass.

The mission successfully inserted all 36 satellites into their intended orbits, bringing the constellation of OneWeb’s satellites up to a total of 618 satellites. Because it completes OneWeb’s Gen-1 (first generation) constellation, the OneWeb India-2 Mission represents a significant achievement for the London-based company in terms of achieving its goal of offering global coverage by 2023. Thanks to the mission, OneWeb is the first operator in low-Earth orbit to reach this milestone.
On March 9, 2023, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket lifted 41Web satellites into low-Earth orbit from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. It was this complete OneWeb’s Gen-1 constellation.
The OneWeb Gen-1 constellation has 12 equal-sized planes on which the satellites are distributed. At a height of 1,200 kilometers above the planet’s surface, the constellation is active. Each plane is four kilometers apart to prevent inter-plane collisions.
OneWeb is working to expand the number of its satellites in order to improve connectivity. The business has teamed up with leading providers including VEON, Orange, Galaxy Broadband, Paratus, and Telespazio to bring connectivity solutions to various regions of the world.
