Mastopexy to improve self-esteem

Tags: breast patient

The appearance of the breasts is very important not only for women, but also for men. As a man, to have enlarged breasts can be a real burden associated with serious emotional complexes. As a woman, to have breasts that are too small, too big, or too saggy can also trigger an emotional discomfort, and in some cases a physical one too.

Breast sagginess can affect women of different ages and with different breast volumes. It is known that overly large breasts tend to sag sooner compared to breasts that are smaller; however, small breasts can also start sagging early in life if the Patient has one or multiple pregnancies or significant weight fluctuations. There are many different causes of breast ptosis, and while some can be prevented or delayed, this is not the case for all of them. When the breasts start to sag and hang low on the chest wall, the patient might start feeling a loss of sex appeal. Saggy breasts are also associated with old age in general, so it is not a pleasant look for a younger woman to have.

Mastopexy is the procedure performed to correct breast sagginess and to help women improve their self-esteem levels. The procedure takes one to two hours to be performed, depending on the complexity of each case and can be combined with the use of breast implants. It is rather common nowadays to get a breast augmentation or a breast reduction at the same time with the breast lift as this way we get better results: better-looking breasts with minimum discomfort.

Mastopexy is performed with the use of general anesthetic and has a hospitalization period of no longer than a few hours. After waking up from the effects of the anesthesia, patients can return home for the recovery period. The recovery period is of about two weeks after the breast lift. It is not overly difficult for patients to go through recovery as the pain and discomfort are not intense in a vast majority of cases. It is important to know that there will be a certain level of pain and discomfort to be experienced in the first few days post-op, but they will be easily alleviated with the help of the analgesic medication prescribed by the plastic surgeon. It is also worth mentioning that antibiotics will also be prescribed after mastopexy.

Patients are advised to avoid lifting heavy objects, smoking, and sleeping on the tummy, and they must wear the special post-op bra non-stop for at least three weeks after the surgery. The results of mastopexy are visible immediately, but the breasts will be bruised and swollen for quite a few weeks, so it is important for patients to take the recovery period step by step and to understand that this is a process and things don’t happen overnight. With each week, patients notice an improvement in the appearance of their breasts and an increase in self-esteem levels.
