Delta 8 High Explained – What to Expect, When Will It Last, and More!

No doubt, hemp is the rockstar cultivar of cannabis of the decade. The 2018 Farm Bill relaxed laws surrounding hemp-derived cannabinoids, and, in turn, new horizons opened up for all of us. CBD (cannabidiol) may have initially been the showstopper due to its therapeutic nature, but Delta 8 THC is coming in hot on the hemp scene.

This less-psychoactive form of THC does induce a high, albeit a euphoric experience that’s different from the more notorious delta 9 THC. The big question—what is a delta 8 high really like? Check out the details so you know what to expect below.

First, a Closer Look at Delta 8 THC

Delta 8 THC (delta 8 tetrahydrocannabinol or D8 THC) is a cannabinoid found in plants belonging to the cannabis family. This particular cannabinoid is present naturally in hemp. However, the natural levels are relatively low, usually falling around 0.1 percent of the total cannabinoids found in hemp. Further, delta 8 is actually considered a CBD isomer—the two molecules share the same atoms, but they have a different layout. Therefore, CBD can be synthesized into delta 8.

Delta 8 THC, unlike CBD, is a psychoactive cannabinoid. In fact, D8 looks almost identical under a microscope to delta 9 THC save for the placement of a specific double bond. The difference is that delta 8 is not quite so intoxicating; the effects are not as intense and may wear off a bit quicker for some people.

Delta 8 Effects – What to Expect

For the most part, you can expect a milder high with delta 8 than you would with delta 9. While there is not a lot of specific scientific research about just how potent delta 8 is compared to its more intoxicating counterpart, some suggest the D8 to be about half as potent as D9. With that being said, you will still experience some of the same effects, such as:

  • Having a sense of profound focus
  • Experiencing heightened levels of creativity
  • Settling into a rather deep state of relaxation
  • Feeling a little giddy, giggly, or euphoric

One perk of having a THC experience that is less potent is the fact that many users report they can use delta 8 THC without the negatives that come along with delta 9. For example, delta 8 is less likely to cause you to feel paranoid or anxious, and it is unlikely you will get that insane level of couch-lock.

The delta 8 benefits are worth pointing out as well, therapeutically speaking. This cannabinoid does offer some therapeutic properties, including deterring nausea, stimulating the appetite, and possibly helping people with pain.

How Long Will the Effects of Delta 8 THC Take to Kick In?

Delta 8, much like other cannabinoids like CBD, kicks in fastest when it is inhaled. You will likely start to notice the onset of effects within about 2 to 10 minutes, if not a bit sooner. With edible forms of D8, the effects take hold longer after consumption, possibly taking as long as an hour or more.

How Long Does a Delta 8 High Last?

The peak delta 8 effects or “high” will probably settle in at around the half-hour-after consumption mark for most people, give or take 10 to 15 minutes. There can be major differences in how long the high last depending on:

  • The amount of delta 8 consumed
  • The type of delta 8 product you used
  • Your metabolism, weight, and even gender

For the most part, the high will dissipate after peak effects are reached about as fast as they came on. Therefore, you may feel the effects primarily for about an hour. However, much like delta 9, the effects can linger on a lot longer for some people.

How Much Delta 8 Should You Inhale?

It can be really hard to make recommendations on how much delta 8 to vape or smoke. The potency levels vary from one product to the next, and everyone can have a different tolerance when it comes to all types of cannabinoids. If you are trying something like TIMBR Organics Delta 8 THC Cigarettes for the first time, it is a good idea to take just a few puffs, wait around 10 or 15 minutes, and then smoke more as needed.

Why Delta 8 Smokes?

Even though you can find delta 8 in a lot of forms, delta 8 inhalables tend to be the most highly sought-after for a few reasons. For one, inhaled D8 kicks in faster. This means you get the effects sooner but also get the opportunity to gauge the effects and adjust as needed without waiting a long time for the cannabinoid to kick in. Delta 8 cigarettes also offer a nice flavorful smoking experience, much like smoking any other type of cannabis. You will be getting the terpenes and other cannabinoids, which may elevate the overall experience.
