What is CBC?
CBC or Cannabichromene is one of over one hundred cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. While CBC is still considered a minor cannabinoid, it is the third-most abundant compound in the Hemp Plant. Right after CBD and THC.
It is a “sibling” of CBD and THC because of how the hemp plant produces it. Similar to CBD and THC, CBC stems from cannabigerol acid, or CBGa. The hemp plant produces CBG first, then it is converted to either CBD, THC, or CBC.
If you are using a full Spectrum or broad spectrum CBD extract, chances are you are already getting a fair amount of CBC.
Remember, there are currently three main types of CBD for sale.
- Full Spectrum
- Broad Spectrum
- CBD Isolate
Full spectrum is an extract of the hemp plant that contains all of the compounds. This includes a small amount of THC, up to 0.3% by dry weight.
Broad spectrum on the other hand includes all of the cannabinoids found in hemp, but the THC has been processed out.
CBD Isolate is simply pure CBD.
Therefore, anyone that uses either full spectrum, or broad spectrum extracts is already consuming small amounts of CBC.
If you’re looking to increase the amount of CBC, there are special CBC products for sale, that contain a higher amount than standard CBD oils.
As research into all of the cannabinoids grows, so will the products and brands that produce them. Just make sure to buy from a trustworthy brand, that offers third party lab results for all of their products.
This way, you know exactly the amounts you’re getting.
It’s also important to distinguish the type of product you are buying.
If you purchase a full spectrum CBD product, the biggest compound in this oil will be CBD. There will be some CBC amount in the oil, but the amount will be minute.
However, if you purchase a full spectrum CBC product, the dominant cannabinoid will be CBC. You will still get some amount of CBD, but it will be a minute amount.
The distinction between the two is important.
Will CBC get me high?
Similar to CBD, CBC is a non-psychoactive compound that will not get you high. When most people think about the cannabis plant, marijuana comes to mind. The compound that is responsible for the high in marijuana is THC.
The CBC that is sold on The CBD Haven has been extracted from the hemp plant, which legally cannot contain more than 0.3% THC.
Even if you were to use full spectrum CBD or full spectrum CBC products, the amount of THC present will not be enough to get you high.
Will CBC cause a failed drug test?
CBC on its own will not cause a failed drug test. That is only because drug tests don’t generally look for CBC. They are designed to detect substances that are or used to be considered illegal, such as THC.
That’s not to say that if you use a CBD or CBC extract, you will not fail a drug test. If you consume full spectrum hemp extract, there will be a small amount of THC present. Up to 0.3% by dry weight.
Over time this amount can build up in your system, causing a failed drug test.
What are the benefits of CBC?
Currently neither CBC nor any other cannabinoids found in a hemp plant are not regulated by the FDA and there are no benefits that have been fully proven.
CBC is currently being studied and some of the benefits that show potential include:
- Neuroprotectant properties and encourages neurogenesis. A 2013 study found that CBC can potentially encourage new brain growth.
- Antidepressant – A recent study showed CBC when combined with THC was effective in producing antidepressant like actions in mice.
- Anti-Inflammatory – A 2010 study showed that CBC can be effective as an anti-inflammatory alone.
- Pain Relief – When combined with CBD, CBC can help in stimulating pain-relieving networks in animals, producing analgesic effects, according to a 2011 research review.
- Antibacterial and antifungal.
As you can see there’s a lot of promise for CBC. Research is still being done but that’s not stopping people from singing their praises.
