What is the entourage effect?

Wondering what is entourage effect? We promise it’s not how you feel after Ari Gold chews you out. Although if you ask us, he certainly could use some full entourage effect from a daily regimen of CBD.

That was exactly the way we felt, the first time we heard of the entourage effect. When it comes to cannabidiol, it is actually a very useful thing for users. Something a lot of people are looking for, the CBD entourage effect.

In order to be able to truly explain we have to go all the way to the beginning and start with why people are turning to and starting their own personal CBD wellness practice.

With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, Congress has not only legalized industrial hemp cultivation, but also defined hemp in a legal sense in the United States.

“…hemp cannot contain more than 0.3 percent THC, per section 10113 of the Farm Bill. Any cannabis plant that contains more than 0.3 percent THC would be considered non-hemp cannabis—or marijuana—under federal law and would thus face no legal protection under this new legislation.”

This made cannabidiol Hemp Extract mainstream and readily available everywhere.

As hemp extract oil is still not regulated by the FDA, no company could officially claim any medical benefits. That didn’t stop the users from singing praises of all the benefits they have experienced from starting their very own CBD wellness practice.

Those CBD uses include:

  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Pain Management
  • Sleep quality
  • Inflammation

All of a sudden CBD was everywhere and being used for anything you can imagine. Today you can go to a coffee shop and get a CBD infused latte. There are pain relief salves being used by athletes. You can get CBD oil with melatonin to help you catch some ZZZ’s.

The incredible thing is, that it’s being used by everyone and anyone. Young and old. People of all types of backgrounds that were previously concerned about using any pharmaceutical drugs. It is 100% natural and scientists are just beginning to study hemp extract oil benefits, as the attention to this elixir is growing.

Since there are so many different CBD products, brands, spectrums and strengths it can get very confusing, especially for the beginner. This is why at The CBD Haven, we created our informative blog to help answer these questions.

The Entourage effect is something you will hear about when dealing with any benefits or uses of CBD. While it is fairly simple and straight forward in theory, we wanted to take the time to explain it properly to make sure you avoid all confusion.

The entourage effect explained:

  1. What is entourage effect?

  2. How to achieve full entourage effect?

  3. What does full spectrum mean?

  4. Broad spectrum hemp extract

After reading this article, we hope you will have gained some additional knowledge, and be better informed about the type of CBD product you want to purchase.

1. What is entourage effect?

According to Wikipedia:

“While originally identified as a novel method of endocannabinoid regulation by which multiple endogenous chemical species display a cooperative effect in eliciting a cellular response, the term has evolved to describe the polypharmacy effects of combined cannabis phytochemicals or whole plant extracts. The phrase now commonly refers to the compounds present in cannabis supposedly working in concert to create “the sum of all the parts that leads to the magic or power of cannabis”. Other cannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids may be part of an entourage effect.”

What does all that really mean? It means that CBD is only one of the many compounds found in the whole plant hemp extract. All of the CBD terpenes and flavonoids work together to maximize any benefits you will achieve. That is what creates the entourage effect.

Please take the above as theoretical only, as a 2020 study review, has hypothesized that when it comes to the entourage effect for cannabis usage, it is a term used mainly for rebranding and marketing purposes. No such thing exists.

2. How to achieve full entourage effect?

Now that we know the entourage effect is achieved by all the cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes working together, the question becomes how we actually achieve it. Theoretically we do so by starting a daily CBD practice that consist of either full spectrum whole plant CBD oil, or broad spectrum whole plant CBD oil.

CBD isolate will not work, as it only contains cannabidiol. It is CBD oil without terpenes, flavonoids or any additional cannabinoids.

3. What does full spectrum mean?

What is full spectrum you ask. Full spectrum refers to the final product of the whole hemp plant extraction process. It is the least processed oil and contains all of the cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes of hemp. This includes THC.

Remember that by the legal definition established in the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp extract, which includes full Spectrum Hemp Extract, cannot contain more than 0.3% THC. This amount is widely considered to be too miniscule to produce any psychoactive results. Meaning it will not get you high.

Although with prolonged use, there’s a possibility of THC buildup in your system, which can potentially lead to a failed drug test. Use with caution and at your own risk.

This is why we have Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract.

4. Broad spectrum hemp extract

Similar to full spectrum, broad spectrum refers to the final product of the extraction process. It is slightly more processed, but still contains all of the cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes of hemp. Except for THC.

This spectrum is processed a bit more to remove the THC. Although technically considered and widely labeled at THC free, it can contain trace elements of up to 0.05% THC. That amount is microscopic, and not detectable in Third Party Lab Results.

For a more thorough understanding of the types of spectrums of cannabidiol extract, take a look at our CBD Oil Spectrums BLOG.

We hope the above can help you get a bit more of an understanding as to what is the entourage effect, and why many people find it beneficial. While some studies are calling it a marketing term, there is still more research that needs to be done.

CBD hemp extract oil is still in its infancy stages, but it’s an exciting natural compound with lots of promise and possibilities.
