So let’s chat CBD Edibles. These can be purchased online, or specialty home made products. We wanted to cover this topic, especially for the newer CBD connoisseurs. Our topics today will include:

  1. What are CBD edibles?

  2. What are the effects of CBD edibles?

  3. Are CBD edibles better than oil tincture?

  4. Are CBD gummies the same as edibles?

  5. Can a CBD edible show up on a drug test?

  6. Can CBD edibles cause headaches?

  7. Can I make my own edibles from CBD oil?

  8. How many CBD edibles should I eat?

  9. Where can I buy CBD edibles?

That’s a lot of topics to cover, and we will do so briefly as an introduction. If you want a more detailed explanation to any of these questions, we will cover most in detail in an upcoming blog.

As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions that you do have at: [email protected]. We are not doctors, but we sure know our CBD.

1. What are CBD edibles?

Not a trick question. Some people are genuinely unsure, as historically edibles have been primarily associated with marijuana. With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized hemp extract on a federal scale, edibles can now refer to cannabidiol hemp extract.

What is CBD edibles? Any type of CBD that can be ingested orally. Simple right. It has to enter and pass our digestive tract therefore vaping CBD does not count as an edible.

2. What are the effects of CBD edibles?

Wonder what do CBD edibles do? Same thing as CBD oil.

Keep in mind there are studies currently being conducted. The FDA only approved one CBD based drug, Epidiolex, for help with seizures. While the results of studies for the below benefits are positive, more need to be done in order to get a real understanding of CBD benefits.

That’s not stopping anyone from using CBD to help with the following issues, according to Healthline:

  • Pain management
  • Reduction in anxiety and depression
  • Reduce symptoms of some severe treatments, including nausea, vomiting and pain.
  • Reduction in acne
  • Neuroprotective properties
  • Could benefit heart health

Certainly, more human studies are needed, but thus far user reviews speak for themselves.

    3. Are CBD edibles better than oil tincture?

Depends. They are certainly easier to administer than sublingual CBD oil application.

However, if you’re wondering are CBD edibles effective, taking bioavailability and absorption rates, unfortunately that is not the case. Oral consumption has a reported bioavailability rate of 4% to 20%, according to this study published by the National Institutes of Health.

Even at the top end of the spectrum, that is extremely low. To give you an idea, if you take a 10mg gummy, theoretically you will only absorb about 2mg of CBD.

That same oil, consumed sublingually would net you a bioavailability rate of between 12% and 35%. Vaping, anywhere from 34% to 46%.

No need for AP Calculus to answer that question.

    4. Are CBD gummies the same as edibles?

Yup. Correct. Absolutely. Go back to our first question and see the definition of CBD edible. Now grab a gummy and enjoy.

    5. Can a CBD edible show up on a drug test?

Depends. If the edible is made with CBD isolate, or Broad Spectrum oil, the answer is no. That is because what actually shows up on a drug test is not CBD, but THC. Both of the above-mentioned spectrums are THC Free.

If you consume a CBD edible made with Full Spectrum Hemp Extract, there’s a chance with prolonged use THC can build up in your system and you may fail a drug test. That is because Full Spectrum CBD can contain up to 0.3% THC. While not enough to get you high, it just might show up on a lab report.

    6. Can CBD edibles cause headaches?

Not likely. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get one. Depending on the ingredients in the edibles, you could be having a fun little sugar crash.

CBD does have some side effects, so keep that in mind as well. According to the Mayo Clinic:

“Though it's often well-tolerated, CBD can cause side effects, such as dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, drowsiness and fatigue. CBD can also interact with other medications you're taking, such as blood thinners.”

    7. Can I make my own edibles from CBD oil?

Darn skippy you can. Add some to your latte, bake a cookie, or infuse your favorite oil-based dressing. There are plenty of recipes online that can teach you to even make your own gummies.

As a matter of fact, one of our favorite brands, CBDistillery, has some cooking videos on the IG channel. How cool is that?

    8. How many CBD edibles should I eat?

Depends completely on the user. First thing you need to figure out is what your daily dose of CBD should be, in order to reach your desired effect. For more info on picking the right dosage, feel free to check out our blog here.

Once you have the desired dosage, the number of edibles you should eat will be dependent on how many milligrams of CBD in edibles. When it comes to gummies, that is clearly marked on the package. For instance, the Reassure Gummies come in three different strength levels, 10mg, 20mg, 30mg, so that you can find exactly what is right for you.

So that’s it’s easy to figure out how strong of a CBD edible should I take.

    9. Where can I buy CBD edibles?
