How long does CBD take to work?

This is a question we get frequently. Especially from new users who buy CBD online, and then try to figure out how to use it. Unfortunately, not knowing some of the basics of CBD use can make any new users frustrated and abandon giving it a fair try.

Which is a shame. Many daily CBD users report life changing results. Daily users are reporting a decrease in anxiety, reduction in their depressions, even pain management. CBD is even now being studied as an alternative treatment to Opioid Addiction.

The exciting part is we’re just getting started. With the recent passing of the 2018 Farm Bill making hemp and hemp extracts legal across all 50 states in the U.S., more money is being funneled into research. It will take time to get definitive proof, but so far the results are promising.

This is why at The CBD Haven we’re not only passionate about this magical cannabinoid, one of over 100 in the hemp plant, but we’re also fanatical about educating our client base. That’s why we keep updating our blog frequently, to ensure any and all questions are answered.

We believe that an educated client, is a happy client.

On this edition of Our CBD Blog, we will discuss how long does CBD take to kick in? As with anything related to CBD, it is not a simple answer. It will depend on a couple different factors, including:

  • Method of Application
  • Dosage
  • Ailment
  • CBD Spectrum

These are some of the most basic factors to consider. Each one of our bodies responds differently, so please take these as guidelines only. Considering CBD is extremely well tolerated by the human body, it would be best to start low and try on yourself.

There will be three major questions we will try to answer in this blog:

  1. How long does it take for CBD to take effect?

  2. How long do the effects of CBD last?

  3. How long does CBD oil stay in your system?

Before we begin, it’s important to know we assume you have some basic knowledge about what CBD is. We also assume you are familiar with the different types of CBD spectrums and CBD products for sale online.

Let us begin.

1. How long does it take for CBD to take effect?

This varies by the individual, your method of application, how strong the hemp extract is and sometimes the spectrum type.

The most popular form of CBD is oil, and there are various consumption methods that will produce the desired reaction quicker or slower. If you ingest a gummy, such as this ReAssure Gummy or a cookie, or have a salad with some cannabidiol infused oil, it might take some time. As long as one to six hours before you can feel the effects.

That’s because if you ingest CBD oil, you prevent it from getting into your bloodstream quickly, but rather send it to your digestive tract and the liver. It will then get broken down and will eventually reach the blood stream.

However, if you consume the hemp extract oil sublingually, which is the recommended method of most brands, and hold under your tongue for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing, the effects will most likely be felt quicker.

That is because we have mucous membranes located in our mouth that will absorb the CBD and omit the digestive system and the liver. In this case you avoid the first metabolization process and the oil can reach the blood stream faster. As quickly as one to two hours before you can feel the effects.

Then there is vaping or inhaling of the CBD. This is the quickest way of feeling the effects of CBD. When you inhale cannabidiol, the hemp extract travels directly to your lungs, and is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream. It then quickly circulates in your entire body.

The effects can be felt within minutes after inhaling.

Finally, there are topical creams and salves, such as this Realign Topical Analgesic Ointment or this CBDol Topical Salve. These are used mostly for pain management. Since the skin is not the best with absorbing the cannabinoids, you do need a larger dose. It is not absorbed into your bloodstream, but rather directly into the affected area. You should start feeling the results within an hour.

When it comes to dosage and the strength, the standard guidance applies. The stronger the dose and the larger the amount, the quicker you will feel its effects. CBD is non psychoactive, meaning it will not produce a head high.

It will take some time to find the right dosage and strength that works for you, so it is best for you to experiment while keeping detailed notes. Start low, and make sure you follow the brands recommendations on when and how to ingest. When you buy CBD online, the products sold on The CBD Haven will come with instructions.

After about 5 days adjust the dosage up or down, depending on how you respond, and how well the product works.

There are also variations based on the spectrums. Currently the three most popular spectrums of CBD for sale online are:

  1. Full spectrum
  2. Broad Spectrum
  3. CBD Isolate

CBD isolate for sale online is typically used in higher dosages. If looking for assistance in pain management, it can take up to a couple weeks to start feeling the results, as it needs to build up in your system and work with your endocannadinoid system (ECS) to help the body reach homeostasis.

2. How long do the effects of CBD last?

This depends on the same factors as above, but the general rule of thumb is that the maximum effects will last anywhere from two to six hours. The time will also increase depending on how long and how consistent you are with your CBD wellness plan.

This is why most hemp extract brands will recommend you take CBD twice daily. For some ailments, even three times a day. This is again the time to experiment and see what kind of regiment works best for you.

3. How long does CBD oil stay in your system?

It’s difficult to say as it also depends on your body, your metabolism, the dosage and even the spectrum. The effects can last up to six hours or more, but CBD can be detected in your body for up to 5 days. More, if you have had a daily CBD regiment for a couple months or more.

Keep in mind that CBD itself will not show up on a drug test. What does show up is the THC.

Hopefully this was informative, helpful and increased your understanding just a bit more.
