How to use CBD?

With a record increase in the number of people who are jumping on the CBD bandwagon, we at The CBD Haven decided to get involved in spreading awareness and educating people in everything that is cannabidiol. Our previous blog posts have covered everything from the types of CBD to dosage and benefits.

It has come to our attention we still did not discuss how to use CBD oil. We kind of assumed if people were looking at giving it a try, they already knew how to use it. Well, we all know what happens when you ASSume.

So that’s where the idea for this edition of the blog comes in.

How to use CBD?

Sounds pretty simple right. In fact, it’s anything but simple. There are so many ways to use CBD, that finding the appropriate Spectrum, brand and dosage will take time. Once you find you’re right combination, you will see that it’s worth your while.

In this quick write up, we will briefly discuss the most frequently asked beginner questions. We will also dive into the spectrums available and how to pick the right one for you. Lastly, we will cover how to pick the right brand.

The main questions we will answer in our discussion today are:

  1. How to use CBD oil?
  2. What is CBD balm?
  3. How much CBD should I use?
  4. How often can I use CBD oil?
  5. How to use CBD for anxiety?
  6. Are there any side effects to using CBD oil?
  7. Can addicts use CBD?

Before we get started on the FAQ’s, let’s go over the basics you need to know before you buy CBD online. There are primarily three types of CBD on the market today. They are:

  • Full Spectrum
  • Broad Spectrum
  • CBD Isolate

There are some new variations that have recently become available such as CBG, but our topic of discussion today is CBD. To get more info on CBG, check out our blog here.

There’s a couple of major differences between these spectrums, main ones being THC content and additional cannabinoids. Similar to broad spectrum, full spectrum CBD for instance contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids found in the hemp plant.

The main difference between the two being full spectrum can contain up to 0.3% THC.

Broad spectrum is processed a bit further, to remove most traces of THC, and is therefore considered THC Free. Both of these spectrums are thought to give the user the advantage of the entourage effect, which means that all the compounds work together to produce the maximum benefit.

CBD isolate is exactly what it sounds like. Pure organic CBD. The high-quality brands can contain upwards of 99% CBD, and nothing else. This also means that CBD isolate is 100% THC Free.

So now that we have some of the basics out of the way, let’s get into the main issues.

1. How to use CBD oil?

Dealers choice.

There’s a large assortment of ways one can use CBD oil.

The most common and with the highest absorption rate is sublingual. This means the user will use the dropper provided with the CBD tincture to put the desired dose under the tongue. Hold it for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing. It can take anywhere from one to two hours to get the maximum effect.

There is a large number of additional ways to use CBD oil.

Coffee has been a very popular way as well. Just squeeze the drops into your morning cup of java and you’re good to go. Some people like to cook with CBD as well, adding CBD oil to their favorite oil-based dressings, or even going so far as baking cookies with the cannabidiol oil inside the dough.

As you can see, there’s a large number of ways to consume CBD. Pick one that works best for you.

2. What is CBD balm?

CBD balm is typically an ointment or topical cream that is applied externally to the skin. These types of products are typically used for either pain management, or skin treatment. Some of the most popular products being:

  • Realign Topical Analgesic Ointment
  • CBDol Topical Salve

3. How much CBD should I use?

Completely up to the user. We recommend starting low, especially if you’re new to hemp extracts. Each of our bodies tends to respond differently. The key is consistency.

Start with a low dose of the oil in the morning and follow up 12 hrs later with a second similar dose. Continue for up to 5 days taking notes on how you feel, before either increasing or decreasing your dosage.

After a few weeks, you should figure out exactly the amount that is right for you.

4. How often can I use CBD oil?

It is typically recommended to divide up your daily dosage in two and take half in the morning and the other half in the evening. However, depending on your reason for taking CBD, you can come up with your own schedule.

While you should try to not take more than what is needed, taking too much CBD should not be a concern. As per the article on cancer.gov:

“Because cannabinoid receptors, unlike opioid receptors, are not located in the brainstem areas controlling respiration, lethal overdoses from Cannabis and cannabinoids do not occur.”

To date there have been ZERO cases reported of a deadly overdose.

5. How to use CBD for anxiety?

Consistently.

First, make sure you find the right spectrum for you. Remember full spectrum hemp extract can contain up to 0.3% THC. If you are a person who has THC induced anxiety, even this small amount can make your anxiety level spike up.

That’s what broad spectrum and CBD isolate are for.

Again, start low and monitor your dosage. Unlike anti-anxiety medications that make you feel loopy, cannabidiol oil will not make you feel anything. Overtime, some users have reported a decreased level of anxiety, without feeling any additional side effects.

6. Are there any side effects to using CBD oil?

There can be, which is why we suggest to start low. According to webMD:

“Some reported side effects of cannabidiol include dry mouth, low blood pressure, light headedness, and drowsiness. Signs of liver injury have also been reported in some patients, but this is less common.”

7. Can addicts use CBD?

Take a look at our blog about CBD and Alcoholism here. Overall there is promise in treating addictions with CBD, but more studies need to be done. CBD seems to reduce intake, the motivation for, and relapse rates in addicts.

There also seems to be evidence that it helps in protecting the brain and liver from long lasting damage.

More studies need to be done, but this would be an incredible benefit that can help a large number of people currently suffering from all types of Use Disorders.

So now that we have the major questions answered, how do we find the right CBD brands for us? The most important thing is to find a reputable brand, that has the type of product they advertise.

One way to do so, is through the Certificates of Analysis, by a Third-Party Lab that CBD brands should provide. At least the reputable brands that care about your CBD wellness do. You can find these lab reports for every brand we carry here, which should make it easy.

We also make sure that the brands we carry provide you with exactly what you pay for. We work with the following organic CBD brands, and more will be added soon.
