Has Lockdown Affected Your Skin?

For those who find their skin has lost condition, our facial aesthetics treatments can help

In earlier blogs we have discussed some of the adverse effects that lockdown may have had on our teeth and gums. The same is potentially true for our Skin where a lack of fresh air, poor diet and the general stress of the virus situation may well have taken its toll.

We may not have thought about this too much whilst our social life was restricted, but now that things are opening up again, most of us will want to look our best when we go out to meet friends and family in a social situation.

To help you avoid any comments about how your appearance might have aged during lockdown, you may wish to take advantage of the facial aesthetic treatments that we offer at Bradley and Partners Dental and Implant Clinic in Canterbury.

The effects of lockdown

An all round healthy lifestyle is essential if you want to have great looking skin. Under normal circumstances, this would include plenty of fresh air with a reasonable, though not too much, amount of sun. Good hydration and minimal alcohol and a diet high in fruits and vegetables will normally help you to keep your skin vibrant and fresh looking. Of course, with the various restrictions that we have been under, most of us probably spent more time indoors with very little sun. We may also have found that our diet worsened too with more ‘comfort foods’ being eaten to help us through the challenging times. All of these are likely to have had an impact on our skin.

Those of you who are regular patients at our Canterbury facial aesthetics clinic and who have Wrinkle Reduction treatments with us on a regular basis, will have missed out and may have found that the lines and wrinkles that you were managing quite well have now returned.

What can you do?

Naturally, some of the issues surrounding these problems will start to resolve themselves. As we get out more we will get a lot more fresh air (and hopefully some sun!) Our diets too might start to improve as we return to something like normal. The time spent in lockdown though may mean that you are seeing signs of wrinkles and lines on your skin, and, with socialising beginning again, you may wish to do something about this.

If you would like to find out how to have smoother and younger looking skin, our Canterbury facial aesthetic clinic can help. Our friendly and experienced team will be pleased to discuss your treatment options so that you can make an informed choice.

Our most popular treatment is wrinkle reduction. Whether you have lines on the forehead, frown lines or crow’s feet, this straightforward yet effective treatment is potentially for you. It is a safe treatment that has been carried out for 40 years and, despite some of the ‘scare’ stories in the media surrounding procedures that have gone wrong, the reality is that if you use reputable and experienced clinicians like ours, this will not happen. We will always discuss any health issues prior to treatment just to be on the safe side.

The anti-wrinkle serum is injected just under the skin in the required area. This shouldn’t hurt, though you may feel a small pricking sensation as it enters your skin. The serum works by blocking signals to the brain that prevents the facial muscles from contracting and so gradually softens and relaxes the skin, causing the wrinkles to start to fade. You will usually start to see the results around a week after the treatment and, in most cases, the effects will probably last for around 4 months or so.

You are very unlikely to have any side effects from this treatment, but in the rare instance that you do, please contact us for advice as soon as you can. One side effect which can occur is minor bruising in the area that the injection was given. This is a temporary problem and will soon ease, but you may wish to consider this when booking an appointment so as to avoid any social occasions.

It is worth considering that once you have enhanced the appearance of your skin, you may wish to do similar for your smile. Our smiles are a major means of communication and having a nice, white smile can certainly help. Why not check out our fast teeth whitening treatment to set you on your way, helping you to have a more youthful appearance.
