Many of us have fallen in love with regular Yoga and meditation, even (or sometimes especially) when we’re on the go. For me, there is nothing better than yoga with a breathtaking view of the mountains or a sun that is rising over the calm ocean on the beach.

It creates a feeling of connectedness with mother nature, peace, and grounds you with your surrounding.

While traveling is easier than ever these days, traveling with a Yoga Mat can be challenging as they can take up lots of space in your suitcase.

Luckily, there are lots of Yoga Mats that are specifically designed for travel — and practicing yoga on-the-go.

Below is a list of the best travel yoga mats we could find — along with a few things to consider before your next trip.

What to look for in a travel yoga mat

Finding the right yoga mat for travel can be a bit of a challenge. It has to be light and small enough for travel, yet you’ll want to make sure you still have plenty of support during your yoga session.

Here are a few things we considered for our list of best travel yoga mats below.

Weight and Size

Traditional yoga mats can be fairly heavy and bulky. To provide the most comfort, most yoga mats can be up to 6mm thick and weigh up to 4 lbs on average.

Most traditional yoga mats are also rolled — which can take up a lot of room in your suitcase.

Yoga mats for travel are much lighter and most of them even fold so you can easily store them in a backpack or a suitcase.

For our list of best travel yoga mats, we tried to stay under 2.5 lbs to make sure they are light and small enough for backpacking.

Material and Surface

The material of a yoga mat is important as it determines how comfortable and durable your yoga mat is.

First and foremost, we wanted to make sure that the yoga mats on our list are as eco-friendly as possible (see our list of our favorite eco-friendly yoga mats here). That means we avoid yoga mats with PVC at all costs.

Secondly, we wanted to make sure that these travel yoga mats provide you with as much grip and cushion as possible (even for sweaty hands and feet). Most of them are fairly thin, which makes the material and surface texture that much more important.

Style

Look good, feel good, right?

While style may more important for some than others, it obviously played a role in our decision making process.

Everyone is unique and we want you to love your travel yoga mat — so made sure to prioritize travel yoga mats that come in lots of different colors and designs.

Price

Pricing is always important. Or better, value is.

So as we evaluated all the travel yoga mats out there, we made sure that the price justifies the value we get form each mat.

The price of these mats may vary and some of them will occasionally be on sale so make sure to check the price for each before buying.
