Assisted hatching is a newer lab technique of IVF

Assisted hatching is Newer Lab Technique, used during IVF treatments, to facilitate the embryo hatching and implantation process. A fertilized embryo is covered by a shell, called the zona pellucida. To result in a successful pregnancy, the embryo must hatch and break out of the zona pellucida and attach to the lining of the uterus. During assisted hatching, embryologists at Kiran Infertilty Centre Bengaluru  weaken the barrier around a fertilized embryo at a single point. This should ideally be done on day 6 of embryo development at a stage known as Blastocyst.

A perforated zona pellucida increases the chances of embryo to hatch and successfully implant.
