  • If any chromosomal and neurological abnormalities are detected in the early stage of pregnancy then there is an option to terminate the pregnancy.

Disadvantages

  • This test is not available in every place.
  • To perform this double marker test you might have to travel to another city.
  • This test is only recommended by doctors if they think it is essential for the health of the baby.

Is Double Marker Test Mandatory?

According to some doctors performing a double marker, test is mandatory during pregnancy.

During this test, a scan is performed to measure the quantity of fluid at the back of the neck of the fetus.

To detect any chromosomal abnormalities in babies this test is performed as it measures the beta HCG and plasma protein in the blood.

This test is very effective to identify Down’s syndrome and Edwards’s syndrome in babies. This test is performed between 8 to 14 weeks of pregnancy.
