How to stop hair loss?

Are you tired of losing too much hair? Are you constantly finding Hair strands everywhere? Is the thinning and/or balding of your hair worrying you?  Are you concerned about your receding hairline and patches of the scalp being seen in your head? You’re not alone. Hair loss is, in fact, a big problem today for people of all ages and gender. You may have sought for information, help or suggestion but we as a hair transplant clinic in Nepal will provide you with a permanent solution to all your hair fall problems.

However, the bigger question is, how do you stop hair fall?

When should you be concerned about hair loss?

To understand hair loss, it’s necessary to understand the natural hair cycle. On average, an adult head has about 100,000 – 150,000 hairs. At any time, 90% of the hair is growing. The other 10% are in the dormant (resting) phase. These dormant hairs fall out after a period of time, and new hair starts growing again. This is a normal hair cycle. Owing to the cycle, an adult on an average cam loses up to 100 hairs per day, without worrying.

However, losing more than 100 hairs on a daily basis could be an indicator of something bigger. Receding hairline or patches of bald spot might be a sign of Pattern Baldness or Alopecia. Alopecia is the medical term given for hair loss.

How to stop hair loss?

There are many products in the market which are marketed to work efficiently against hair fall. With enticing discounts, offers, and baits – the products claim to work like magic against all kinds of hair loss. However, it’s crucial to thoroughly understand and inquire about anything that claims to do hair restoration.

The three most effective and efficient methods to stop hair loss are:

  1.  Approved Medications
  • Some FDA approved medications are: Oral Finasteride and Topical Minoxidil
  • Not effective against large-scale balding
  • Cannot bring back lost hair, only stimulate present hair follicles
  • Might have side-effects and long-term treatment can be expensive
  1. Popular Therapies
  • Some therapies are Mesotherapy, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), Lower Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
  • Effective against: Hair thinning, less volume, rough and damaged hair, etc
  • Limited effectiveness in cases of hair loss
  • Cannot bring back lost hair, only stimulate present hair follicles
  1. Hair Transplant
  • It is still the only known hair loss solution that can restore and re-grow one’s lost hair and hairline.
  • Different techniques include: Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), Direct Hair Transplant (DHT)
  • A minimally invasive procedure
  • Particularly very helpful in treating large-scale balding
  • A permanent, and thus perfect solution

What is a Hair Transplant? How does it work?

Hair Transplant is the process of extracting hair follicles from a hair-bearing area to the balding region. To understand hair transplant, it is necessary to understand these two terms:

a) Donor Area:

In alopecia, hair loss is typically caused by a hormone which causes the hair to fall out. However, some parts are not affected by the hormone – those areas are known as the donor area.

These areas are generally the back and side of the head. It depends on person to person. Sometimes, if the hair on the head is not enough, hair from the beard can also be used. The hair from these areas is permanent i.e. they do not fall out.

b) Recipient Area:

The recipient area is the balding area, from where hair falls out and does not grow back.

Generally, the recipient areas for males are the Crown and Temple area. Hair loss in the temple starts at the front hairline and moves backward. Hair loss on the crown starts as a whorl (at the back of the head). It spreads outwards to produce baldness of a circular pattern.

For females, the recipient area is usually the hairline partition area.

Hair Transplant, simply put, is the process of transferring hair grafts (a group of hair follicles) from the donor area to the recipient area.

What are the different types/ techniques of Hair Transplant?

Presently, Hair Transplants are possible through three techniques: Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), and Direct Hair Transplant (DHT). (Internal link to their procedures part)

Among these techniques, DHT stands out to be the most effective and efficient for the following reasons:

  1. Unlike other processes, extracting hair grafts from the Donor Area and transferring it to the Recipient area occurs simultaneously.
  2. This reduces the time that the hair graft stays out of the body. The chances of the survival of these hair grafts are lesser for the longest time that they stay out of the body. Therefore, it ensures a 100% graft survival rate.
  3. Since the grafts extracted from the donor area do not grow back from the same area, it is important to preserve them. Since all the grafts are preserved, DHT stands out as the best technique, providing value for money and time.
  4. Extraction and transplantation occur at the same time- this reduces the downtime of the overall procedure- by 30-50%. This makes the process faster and more efficient too.

How much does a hair transplant last?

The hair grafts extracted from the donor area are permanent in nature. These hair grafts are already resistant to the hormone that causes hair to fall. Thus, they will not thin or fall out in the future.

How can I regrow my hair naturally?

Obviously, things would be easier if we could just take things around us and use it to regrow hair.  However, there have been no proven benefits of natural remedies or home hacks. Hair Loss typically occurs due to the hormones in our body. It has more to do with what happens on the root, and the natural remedies have little to no effect on that. Besides, since hair and skin are very sensitive, it’s not wise to take steps without medical counsel.

As worrisome as hair loss can be – there’s nothing to worry about. With the right technique, done at the hands of a right doctor, hair fall is nothing but a phase.

At Folliderm, we offer quality hair and skin services catered to your needs and satisfaction.
